Knee replacement, wound and shingles , what a month!

I had a Total Knee Replacement on 10/7 and it went really well, or so I thought. I ended up getting a very deep wound were my incision is and going to to wound clinic every week. Then I got shingles even though I am vaccinated! It's been very interesting.

My next Ocrevus infusion is in less than a month. I'm thinking my neurologist will push it back.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience.

I’m so very sorry! What a month! Could Ocrevus cause an infection in your incision? Or make you more prone to an infection? Hope it all improves! 🤗🤗☺️

I have a telehealth appointment with my neurologist today, I am going to ask.

I pray you have a quick recovery with both the infection and the shingles. That's really a lot to go through.

It sounds like your immune system has been suppressed too much. Let's hope you don't get Covid on top of all this.

you have been through it! i'm glad you're under medical care and wish you a speedy recovery. knee replacements alone are no joke. my dad had both done. he also had shingles and the pain was so bad he couldn't put it into words.

take care of yourself!🤗

I’m sorry to hear about everything you’ve been through recently. I hope you continue to heal and that you can have your next infusion on schedule or soon. I’ve heard that, even with the vaccine, people can still get shingles. Supposedly, it’s supposed to be a less serious case and less likely to include the nerve pain syndrome that can follow the infection.

Gee. I am so sorry. This year has been a challenging year for everyone. I wonder if I should get vaccinated for shingles too. I see the commercials. I guess it's better to be safe. It's been a challenging year for me too. I have been having trouble with my knee too and having Physical Therapy for it. Arthritis they say. I have been praying for relief. I will keep you in my prayers.

When I went to the wound clinic after my ankle fracture incisions wouldn't heal, the nurse poked around in the deepest ooze, and found a piece of wire stitch that hadn't been removed. Finally,, 9 months after the surgery, the pit began began to heal. I hope your incision heals with the help of the wound clinic.

They have taken quite a few sutures out.

Since MS is a disease marked by an over active immune system, it makes sense to me that my body attacks sutures as invaders. When my wrist fracture was held together with pins, within two weeks they began to move , eventually some broke through the surface of the skin, necessitating another operation to remove them all. My ankle was repaired with a plate and many screws. The skin has finally healed, but I am always conscious of the insult to the tissues and nerves at the site of dislocation and fracture (on those pain scales, I'd rate it between a 1 or 3 depending on the weather or the activity) .

I hope your shingles are lessening. and you are suffering less, and can honestly celebrate Thanksgiving!

Was your knew replacement related to MS. I had several MRI due to pain and being unable to bend my leg. Orthopedic is telling me its MS related.

Aw, Wizardsmom, that is not fair! I am sorry. A total knee replacement is bad enough, but shingles on top of it.... Bless your heart! Prayers for complete (and quick!) healing. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (my favorite verse when I feel wormy --- maybe it will help you too. Isaiah 41:10). 🙏

Wow. How long can you put off an infusion? How long is an infusion good for? Longer than 6 months?
