So, when I had my ocruvus infusion the nurse there told me to get the shingles vaccine. This was in late December.. covid-19 vaccine is rolling out... Nurse tells me to get it anyway... Umm ok..
Saw PCP... He says... 3 months between the 2 flippen vaccines ππ I don't even know HOW to GET THE VACCINE in this town.. ππ¨π€£π
Feel the frustration here? ππ€ππ
PS.. I have a general idea of how to sign up.π But it's not easy.. and OMG, there are hardly any shots... Yeaaaa I don't see this happening any time soon. Blah

I am due for the Shingles vaccine as well (folks over 50. . .damn it!) but it's been "in scarce supply" over the last couple years locally, and I hear it's quite "expensive."
Yes; we are all due for the Covid-19 vaccine as well. But, my state (Pennsylvania is ranked #41 out of 50 states?) and is dispensing via age, co-morbidities, etc. As MS isn't on the co-morbidity list, I will get vaccinated during the Second Phase? June, July, Summerish?
And, as I've been self-injecting Avonex for 23+ years now, and I hate hate hate needles, I MUST REMEMBER how LUCKY am I AM TO EVEN HAVE ACCESS to these medications!
Some Walgreens and Walmartβs in our area but they still have to follow the vaccination guidelines in Tennessee. I am to young.π I guess I should feel good that I am to young for something, I am 66.
Personally question to you (or anyone who can relate) 23+ and over 50 has you your neurologist ever told you you can stop Avonex if you havent had any changes with MRI's in two years?
Blessings to you 23 years on Avonexπme only 3 for it I was on Coxapone but was allergic to it. Have had MS since 1979, just started needing meds in the last 6 year's due to my vision. Insurance pays for it and I can't get it.πππ
I'm shocked that a neuro never put you on anything until 6yrs ago ! My mom was diagnosed in 1974 but they had noting back then and when I was diagnosed in 1999 from a MRI my neuro said you need to get ahead of this now and start on something. Only had the ABC's back then. Avonex, Copaxone and Betaseron. My how things have changed
My brother in law was told (by his PCP) to wait a few months between the shingles and Covid vaccinations also.My daughter got her second Covid shot on Wed. and my husband got his today. Probably going to be March or April before I can get my first.
I got my first shingles shot in mid-December. The pharmacy was going to have me wait 3 months until the 2nd shot, but I talked to them and they said 2 months is enough. But, I have heard from several sources that there must be at least 1 month between the last shingles shot and the first (or only) COVID vaccine. So I'm going to get the 2nd shingles shot within a week, and then start applying for the COVID shot.
Hello on the shingles note, I've already had them,πhurt like hell, never been thereπ also was told I can't get the shot due to the injection Avonex I takeππso Blessings on all of that when it does happen. I'm still concerned about the covid19 vaccine, has anyone had it yet? What are your feelings.
Jesmcd2 ...since you are now on Ocrevus, which is one of the B cell depleting DMTβs, you will need to carefully time your vaccinations for greatest efficacy. The prevailing thought is that vaccines should be taken 4-6 weeks prior to your next infusion. This time period is a combination of renewed B cells plus time for the vaccine to build immunity. Your neuro should have explained this to you but it seems a lot of neuroβs donβt. Mine included! I found this out from reading stuff in Ocrevus and then confirmed it with my neuro.
If you read the NMSS guidelines for the Covid vaccine, you will see a similar explanation for timing the Covid vaccination when you are on Ocrevus.
you are not alone,we are trying too, where is covid vaccine?they are always running out. my understanding they so require shingles shot.they test me before infusion to see if mine is still active.i know you have to wait between vaccines,i don't know how long.after my last treatment my neuro told me to get covid when i can,you don't necesarily have to wait, get it while you can, do what your doc.says
I had a problem getting my shingles shots as well. I had them a few years ago. I went and asked at my local CVS and they said they would "put me on a list". My boss told me several weeks later he'd gotten one at a different CVS so I went there and got the 1st one. When it was time for me to get the 2nd on I asked at the closer one again and was asked if I'd gotten the first one. I told them yes and where I got it and if I should go to that one to get #2. He said, "No, you are our customer so we can do it here." Well they should have given me the first one! But I was able to get it anyway there. So ask around!
