Klonipin

hi all,

I had knee replacement surgery on June 18 and when I came home I was on pain meds so I stopped taking my klonipin. I was on .25 of Klonipin 3 x a day. My anxiety level was pretty low so I had not taken Klonipin for a week. I’m off pain meds now and this morning I woke up with quite a bit of anxiety. Could this be Klonipin withdrawal? I’m taking it again and try to wean off. Anyone else have this experience?

I think it might mean your anxiety is coming back, not necessarily withdrawal from the pill. It's best to talk to your Dr so he/she can tell you the best way to go about getting back on /off the klonopin. They know best.

I would suggest checking with your doctor immediately. Benzodiazepines usually require a customized gradual taper to discontinue but they also can depress or stop breathing so they normally aren’t used with other meds that can do that such as opioids. Suddenly stopping Klonopin can cause withdrawal effects that may last up to 12 months. A sudden change in mood after stopping the med is one of the things that should be immediately reported to your doctor. Discontinuing a medication should be done with your doctor’s approval and guidance. Sorry, I don’t mean to scare you with this information. I just want you to be okay. Please consult your doctor ASAP.

I'm not a doctor and I'm talking only from my own experience. I had never had a withdraw reaction from benzos but I believe it depends on how long you have been taking them. I've been on them the most 6 month. To me it sounds like your anxiety is coming back which is not a good news either. Best of luck

Well, I went back to taking .25 a day twice a day and my anxiety has gotten better. I plan to discuss with my doc. Thanks for the reply!
