Ready to give up.

I need some positivity.

I’m tired of my anxiety and depression.

I’m tired of it all. Honestly. This is too much. I can’t living like this my whole life.

I never asked for these stupid mental illnesses.

I never asked for head to be a LIVING HELL.

I’ve tried meds after meds.

I’ve tried eating better. Dieting. Praying. Going to church.

I’m exhausted. I’m irritated & I cannot possibly live the rest of my life in suffering.

I've been there and I know exactly what you mean. I have been ready several times to leave my family and go be homeless or been suicidal. If you are truly hopeless then it may be worth checking in to the hospital. It isn't a good long term solution, but it can help stabilize things in the short term. I'm sure that there are people in your life that care for you.

I didn't see you mention therapy in the things that you have tried. A therapist that understands your struggles and some skills to cope with them can be huge and can lead to substantial improvements in functioning and in the torment in your head. If I'm wrong and you are in therapy now, then maybe look for a different therapist.

For me, my underlying problem is OCD, and that led directly to me being depressed. For several years I was dealing with people that were trying to address the depression, but I was not getting any help for my OCD because it was just harder to find someone to help and I didn't understand what a huge impact it was having on my life. If you have looked for someone to try to handle the depression but not your anxiety issues, then maybe it is time to focus on the other area that you have problems.

I've been seeing my therapist for OCD for less than a year, and already I am starting to feel hopeful about life again. One excellent book that we are using is The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety:

It has really been making me ask the right questions about myself and my mental health issues and getting me to take charge of my life again. I really cannot recommend it enough. I would highly recommend working through it with a therapist if possible.

Hi there!

The good news is that you don’t have to spend the rest of your life suffering. There is help out there and recovery is possible. I wouldn’t be telling you this if I did not have proof and did not believe it myself. Nobody who struggles with mental health issues ask for those struggles. We didn’t ask for our brains to feel like a living hell at times, but unfortunately this is sometimes the reality we have to face. The suffering is only temporary.

Have you sought treatment? I know that sometimes it feels as if we can solve our problems on our own, but licensed therapists and doctors are trained to successfully treat OCD, anxiety, and depression. Medicine is only part of the solution in treatment, and there are some who don’t require it, but for me it has made a huge difference in my life. However, the real progress and relief comes when we exercise our brains and make a conscious effort to re-train the way we think. I know it’s hard now, but it won’t always be. Please seek help and if you are seriously contemplating harming yourself in anyway reach out to a family member or friend so they can ensure your safety and you can get the treatment that you need. It does get better. I promise.

Hello there,

It may also be helpful to utilize either a mental health support hotline or self-help app during the times you are feeling hopeless or are in need of extra support. NAMI has a support hotline you can access at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264).

You can also find a list of OCD self-help and symptom management apps at iocdf.org/apps
