I am 64 years of age. I have had OCD since I was 12years old. I have had a good life but have had times of extreme lows. I take 30mg of paroxetine a day. I have seen a mental health provider twice in my life, each for short periods of time. The last time I saw anyone was approximately 35 years ago. I still have OCD thoughts which for the most part I am able to ignore although sometimes still struggle with them. I do not have any real compulsions. My question is, Is this as good as it gets? Is this the best life I could have or could it be better going to a trained professional who might help me even more and therefore have a better life?

I would still see a therapist
There isn’t a cure yet for OCD but it’s possible to have freedom from it. Who you see for help matters. There are many therapists who claim to treat OCD but aren’t qualified to do so. I would suggest checking out the IOCDF website at iocdf.org. They also do livestreams which are recorded that can be useful. The book, Freedom from OCD by Jonathan Grayson, Ph.D., is one of the books most recommended by OCD experts.
