Hi people,

for a change this is not gonna be a reassurance seeking post.

Just wanted to know if anyone knows anything on how to stop mentally reviewing situations (i thibk it may be ruminating as well) because i keep reviewing situations that happned years ago and trying to find evidence that i did what intrusives are saying i did and every time it ends up with a fake memory type thing that just feeds the reviewing then i have to reassaurance seek and i have a feeling people are getting sick of it 😂

yeah anything appreciated

You may not perceive them at the time, but in fact there are immediate costs to an obsessional search (in your case, trying to find evidence that you did what intrusive thoughts are saying you did). The more you invest time and efforts in it, the more you will find it difficult to end it before you get what you’re looking for, which is not likely because whatever evidence you find, it will never be enough (that’s the nature of OCD). That realization may help you stop an inconclusive and futile obsessional search before its negative consequences catch up with you (“people are getting sick of it” and you’re wasting your precious time).

You could find a way to dismiss it as soon as you catch yourself doing it. Some little phrase like "I'm not going there," or "never mind all that." It'll be hard to do it in the moment sometimes, but if you're constantly retreading the same ground, there's no point to continuing that train of thought.
