DERMATILLOMANIA?

I pick at my skin until it bleeds and sometimes it is hard for me not to. My doctor diagnosed me with dermatillomania. But isn't it normal to pick at your skin?

I do the same thing, but I pick at any blemish on my skin. I have been doing so since childhood. According to an article from the Guardian, as many as 1 in 20 people have skin picking disorder or dermatillomania. from what I have read, it is a bit more of a common disorder and skin picking can be a ‘typical or common’ behavior.

For me, it became a problem because I am causing myself to bleed, have infected cuts and scars. I think once it becomes an issue in ones life than it is not the run of the mill occasional picking at a pimple or what have you.
