Question: Residency programs

Hi,

New here on the forum! This is my first post. A little about me: I have severe OCD of the harm and magical thinking kind + many many intrusive thoughts.

I am looking in to residency programs right now and have heard recommendations about Rogers and McLeans. (McCleans very hard to get into). I currently live in Canada and we only have one residency program (Sunnybrook Frederick Thompson) and it has a long waiting list and very strict admissions so it has proven quite difficult to get in.

I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations and/or experiences with a residency program in the US and how it has worked for them.

Hope all of your days are going well! And remember to rebel to that monster (OCD)!

Bao

I would like to welcome you to the OCD support network.

I have been to Rogers in Wisconsin, for residential treatment.

I had a mixed experience, staying there for 5 weeks.

There is one therapist assigned to many patients at one time.

Thus, you do not have much access to your therapist.

I did well while I was doing my Exposures Response Prevention for my symptoms, when I was there during treatment.

But when I came back home, there was absolutely no follow-up, and I did not have any access to a therapist either.

Thus, my severe OCD symptoms returned back.

In addition, they gave me problems about coverage with insurance.

When I returned back home, I was left by myself to deal with the insurance company on phone.

It caused me a lot of anxiety.

Hoping you will be able to get some proper treatment.

I wish you all the best in life.

Hi desipurple19,

Thank you so much for replying to my post. I am sorry that the insurance situation gave you anxiety and the follow-up with Rogers didn't seem that great :(. I hope your journey has since been better! Are you getting the treatment you need now post-Rogers?

Love Bao.

Hello Bao,

I am not really getting the treatment post-Rogers.

I see a Psychiatrist who has put me on some new medications, which are just helping me

with daily basis of survival.

The medications are not helping with addressing the OCD symptoms.

I am basically considered treatment resistant.

I do not have a therapist.

The OCD specialist therapists are very expensive in my area, just for a 50 minute appointment.

I have seen many therapists in the past, and finding a suitable one, with whom you can develop a connection is very challenging for me.

I am just trying to do therapy on my own.

Thank You for following up about my treatment.

Take Care.
