So I got my letter from Haematology today about the 3rd primary covid vaccine. Moment of excitement, then read through frantically trying to find MPNs or PV on the list of eligible criteria. It wasn't there. Re-read the three page letter a little more frantically and finally found the word hydroxycarbamide so assumed I would be eligible. Big relief! The letter directs you to the NHS website to find a walk in vaccination centre - no appointments being offered. So I checked and guess what ... no pfizer vaccines available and only Moderna for those who need their 2nd after their first vaccine. Brilliant. Feeling a bit deflated. These rollercoaster emotions cannot be good for the health!
3rd Covid Vaccine: So I got my letter from... - MPN Voice
3rd Covid Vaccine
Hiya I got my link from guys from professor Harrison telling me to book my 3rd booster vaccine but it was sent prematurely as you have to wait exactly 6 months after your 2nd vaccine.
The 3rd vaccine jab is not the booster. It’s a third primary jab for people with all forms of blood cancer and others. Our booster will/may come later and is more likely to be arranged locally. My text from Guy’s invited me to make an appointment for the 3rd jab and I could choose there or St Thomas’.
Yes sorry wrong wording…. 3rd vaccine! It’s a 3rd dose and is separate from a booster. I’m under guys so any vaccine I have will be done at guys or st Thomas. I went to guys last week and they Informed me that the texts has been sent out too early in error and they will or give it to you until exactly 6 months after your last vaccine!
It’s worth reading the gov.uk JCVI document on the 3rd jab. (The Press Release makes easy reading). The only mention of timing for the 3rd vaccine is that it should be not less than 8 weeks after the second vaccine and it may depend on your specialist. A booster 6 months later may also be given to those who have had the 3rd primary jab.
Wishing you the best of luck. Xx
I went for my flu jab yesterday and was told exactly the same as Dazakella2010 has written. I was told not to request the appointment until exactly 6 months after the date of my 2nd vaccine, as if I request it before, it would fail to recognise that I am eligible for the 3rd.
Today in Australia, the government published recommendations re a 3rd vaccination. Here the recommended timeframe for the 3rd jab is 2 - 6 months after your 2nd jab
I’m sure this isn’t right. In order to have the booster you definitely need to wait six months from your second (or indeed third,) primary dose. I don’t think the six month interval applies to the third primary dose. (I had my third vaccine at Guy’s and the date of my second wasn’t an issue. Whereas my other half got his booster at the same time and the six month interval was probed.) Maz please can we have some clarification?
The JVCI letter definitely said that you can have the third primary dose eight weeks after the second dose….
“We recommend you contact your [GP / Consultant] to discuss the optimal timing to receive your vaccination, which must be at least 8 weeks after your second dose. Your [GP or consultant] will advise you how you can book an appointment to receive your third dose, which may be at the hospital where you receive treatment, your local Primary Care”
Thanks! That confirms what I thought. The current debacle is enough to make the most rational individual think they are losing the plot!!!!
Totally agree, unless you can see your GP (we all know that’s impossible) and put the letter right in front of them you have no chance! I sent this letter to my GP with this section highlighted but the computer said ‘NO’. To be generous to my GP , it was probably intercepted before it got to her.It really shouldn’t be this difficult!
Oh, but it is … Well I’m ‘done and jabbed’ and have had an awful headache all week. And what seems to be a cold (and not allergy). Just hoping I’m back to full strength before flu jab next week … 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ :))) Hope all is well with you and yours.
It seems to be complete chaos - my haematologist has told me I should have a third dose, not the booster, due to my ET, so the 6 month interval shouldn’t apply but my GP surgery won’t accept anything till the 6 months is up despite my ET. Luckily that’s next week so I shall then chain myself to the railings till they jab me..!
Hi I went Tuesday to my GP it states booster !
Had my 3rd at Guys yesterday . It was exactly 6 months and says 3rd on the card. The lady clearly stated it’s not a booster but a 3rd dose & that I’ll require a further dose in another 6 months. Hope this clarifies.
Mine on Monday was more than 6 months from 2nd dose which I had on 18th March. I have ET and am 85 so booked it from NHS letter received. However, I really wish I could have clarification as to whether it is THIRD full dose or BOOSTER. Nobody I’ve mentioned it to gives me a definite answer. I believed from the Blood Cancer UK letter that if we were given Pfizer (even if this was called “booster” ) it was the full primary dose. Please, MAZ , do you think you could find out for us what is correct.? Thanks, Fran
Hi, you’re right. There isn’t a lot of clear info on this. I think “booster” and “third” are one in the same and in turn they are the same as doses 1 and 2. I’m sure Maz/admin will confirm this and, in the meantime, try not to worry.X
I found this, which like many things on the internet, will need confirmation from an expert.
