Abdominal pain or abdominal discomfort

Good afternoon all,

I have progressed from ET (maybe PV, there’s a difference of opinion between 2 hospitals) to MF.

My spleen isn’t only a little enlarged but I have constant abdominal discomfort ranging from painful spasms to dull ache. The pain is central and low abdomen not left side spleen side. Is abdominal discomfort a common side effect of MF? And is it a common side affect of anaemia? (Hb 83)

I am seeing a gastroenterologist in the morning, I just wanted to be armed with a bit of back ground info! Many thanks in advance to all who reply 😊

Possible gaul stones? Gaul stones is a known issue with MPN patients. This is the first issue my hubby had which took him off to the drs & led to his first ever blood test at 45. If took a couple of years to be diagnosed & another 18months for gaul stones to be detected. He had painful spasm attacks & more central. If you can get a ultrasound they will soon be able to tell. He did have his removed & made such a positive difference & no problems with surgery & his MPN.

It might not be gaul stones but it's what I'd look at. Gaul stones are formed not just by calcium but by the by product of the breakdown of red blood cells. With higher levels of red cells you have more by product, therefore more likely to develop gaul stones. Good luck with your appointment

I’ve had ET for 12 years (now progressed to MF) and some years ago I had abdominal pain which seemed to bounce all over. I went to 3 different doctors, my hematologist, primary doctor, and even my gynecologist and had an ultrasound. By the third week the pain became so intense, I asked my boyfriend to take me to the emergency room. It turned out to be a bladder infection that had spread to various organs. All I needed was a urinalysis. And no one thought to give it to me until I went to the hospital. They gave me IV antibiotics and I was there for nine hours. Just giving you my experience in the hopes that it will help you. Good luck and feel better.

I’m ET and diagnosed 2 years ago. I’ve had abdominal aches and pains throughout, even before diagnosed. I take aspirin and hydroxyurea, which can also cause this. ET can cause abdominal pain. Worst at night, especially when I first wake. Good luck!
