Hi ... with PV I have an enlarged spleen .... does anyone with PV have spleen and liver discomfort??? It’s kind of a dull discomfort, not so much a pain.

Yeah my husband spleen was 22.2 cm it should be about 11cm he had discomfort . He's on ruxolitanib for MF and that's reduced his spleen down.

He's changed his diet too so by drinking no alcohol all his liver function tests came down.

He's fine now spleen is still 15cm so it's not fully back to size .

I sometimes have dull ache in spleen area ,Spleen just about normal size,no probs liver or any other organs.A lot depends I think on certain movements, bending awkwardly or similar. After 11 yrs P V ,I find smaller meals more oten thru the day avoids the discomfort in that area too.

Best wishes

Hi Inca.. I actually thought smaller meals throughout the day would help so I’ve just started doing that so fingers crossed !!

Thank you!!!! Be safe!

Great, hope it does help you...if you do have a larger meal ,at friends or restaurant...my nurse advises to leave as long as possible after main course before dessert......very hard where I live,French friends make lots of a meal, lasts hours and so many courses ,cheese in between ,etc!!

They do understand my P V so I can persuade them not to fill me up!!

Hate all the feeling full and pain that goes with it.!Best to you.

Yes, often. I have ET though. When i went on Hydroxy and my platelets lowered my spleen size reduced and i stopped getting the discomfort and cramps.

Hi BloodZero!!! Yes I’ve read that those type of meds reduce the spleen size. I think it may not be too long before I’m put on Hydroxy. How are you doing over all on hydroxy? Any side effects for you???

Honestly i feel better on hydroxy. But i had to tweak things a bit. I take them after i come home from work (i used to take in morning). I ALWAYS have them with food so that they are not hitting a empty stomach.

However what i feel helps most is supporting your body with nutritious food. Get regular exercise (to flush toxins out) and drink fluids often for the same reason. Hydroxy is quite a toxic drug in my understanding. So one needs to encourage your body to flush the waste out.

Alot of people seem to rely just on water to do that but you may or may not know that walking acts a pump for the whole body systems. Gets everything moving gets the toxins out of your pores. (I dont wear deodorant for that reason unless im going to be close to people).

The more lax ive become in my nutrition. The more i feel ill. (Mainly nausea).

You may already know all this but i felt i should mention it as meds are not a end all solution. Its SO important to support your body with healthy habits. If your already doing so than your ahead of the game. 👍🏼
