Hello I’m new here. I have ET for almost 20 years & have been taking Hydrea, now it’s progressed to MFI have started on Pegasys 90 per week as well as hydrea.
My liver enzymes have gone quite high since 6 weeks of Pegasus. Dr is keeping an eye on it. My questions are: anyone are taking both Hydrea & Pegasus? How do they overcome the liver damage?
Dandelion root tea is supposed to be good for liver detox, but I read it has high Vitamin K content, which can potentiate blood clotting? Seems conflicting info. on websites. Some states it’s a blood thinner? I’m confused. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you
Mei

I concur with Paul12345. The only way to look after you liver is through your diet. My cholesterol was 7.8 in 2008 and I have got it down to 4.9 simply by improving the quality of the foods I eat. For example, instead of table salt I now use Himalayan Pink Salt or Sea Salt. Instead of white sugar I have maple syrup, raw honey or dates. And I avoid milk and gluten, processed foods and poor quality oils. I also use organic toothpaste, shampoo and toiletries, or try to avoid them altogether. There is a lot of information on internet on how to improve your diet. You could look up "Liver Rescue". My liver enzymes were in the normal range in the last blood test.
There is controversy around any medications that require the liver to process them but there are so many specific pathways and milkthistle may affect 1 or 2 of them. To find this information is exhausting as searching for exact information is near impossible. In saying that i was taking it when on roferon A interferon & it bought my AST & ALT down to normal levels & interferon kept doing its job.
It’s good to hear your success with milk thistle. Do you mind sharing what dose you take and when is the best time to take it?
I can buy the Blackmores milk thistle , which is a well known brand in Australia. Do you get any side effects from it, like nausea, bloating and loss of appetite etc? Thanks
I take "go healthy" 50,000 with active silybin of 570mg per capsule. I think the active silybin (which should be noted on bottle otherwise waste of time buying) needs to be 250mg or more for therapeutic results.
Hi Frances thanks for your feedback. Just to clarify so you have been taking Peg along with Hydroyl for over a year? And you have been on milk thistle for years? Sorry fog brain at the moment as I’m so worry about my liver at the moment
Do you think the milk thistle contributes to your healthy liver?
Hydroxy made my husband's liver function test constantly rise. His consultant reduced his hydroxy to every other day and his liver function tests have come down
