Its been 5 weeks I have switched to Interferon from Hydrea and found out that my SGPT(ALT) and SGOT (AST) is high and increasing rapidly. Anyone faced such thing ? I don’t want to stop interferon. Its working fine and I don’t have any side effects, its just the liver that m worried about.

Interferon and Liver Condition
I had the same problem at the beginning. You should not worry if they are less than 5 times the max. value. I had raised numbers for a few months while having weekly 45mcg injections. The week the alt and ast came back within normal range (after about 4 months)my HCT began to go up, for no logical reason. I had then 90mcg and now 135mcg weekly injections and the liver stayed totally normal....
PV, Jak2+, pegasys 45mcg for about 6 months now
I have had an on and off relationship With elevated alt/ast. Im on a statin as well which can raise these numbers too.
Though in my case it seems reducing my alcohol consumption was able to bring them back in line.
If you arent drinking, not sure what to tell you.

It's a side effect and can be combined with ferritin elevation. I'm not sure how high your liver numbers but unless they're very high (5 times above normal or more) this is manageable. It's good idea to talk to hepatologist about your concerns.
Hi ,
My husband has post PV MF he's on ruxolitanib and his LFTs and ALTs were creeping up.
Anyhow in January he done dry January changed his diet and lost two stone in weight his LFTs and ALTs all came back down to normal level.
So now he know it's fatty liver and alcohol.
He's not a big drinker but does like a few drinks on a weekend.
This may not be revelant to your case but medication can alter these bloods also food can play a major part.
He's tried cutting right back on sugar and that also makes a difference to his moods and anxiety.

Thank you. Cutting on food and sugar is the solution, I guess. I don’t drink. I have reached 3 time of max limit and currently on 90mcg.
