Falling platelet count.

Hi everyone just had my 4 monthly blood test and my platelets have started falling after being constant for 15 years on hydroxy. Have another blood test in 2 months my platelets are currently at 192 but everything else is constant, can't help feeling a bit uneasy anyone else had similar?

Yes milly cat.I have monthly blood tests, nurse comes to the house.Big panic 2weeks ago ,when he could not get blood out.Cut long story short,he managed some, the result came back that my platelets had plummeted to about zero.So I had to go to blood clinic, where they took blood from different veins, this time platelets were back up to normal....don't really know what was going on,my H C T is high again after months of being good.On Hydrea nearly 7 years,P V....it is scary all this up and down with things, next time yours probably will be up too,try not to worry,Good Luck with next results.

192 is very respectable! But agree with you that change in counts is always a little worrying. You could ask your haem to have a look at your blood film and see if any changes there?

My husbands platelets are between 130-140. They have been down to zero but they never gave him any unless they went below 10.

This happened to me about six months ago.I have been on hydroxy and aspirin for ET for 11 years.Do you have any other symptoms?I developed acid reflux and stomach pains and lost about 2 stone very quickly. My haemotologist was brilliant and said that she wanted to give me a full MOT to make sure that the ET hadn't progressed.I had a x Ray on my chest ,MRI on lower part of my body and a bone marrow aspiration.I have been told that I have had a suspected gastric bleed and have a hiatus hernia .Fortunately no progression but I have been taken off aspirin and my hydroxy has been reduced from 21 tablets a week to just 9 tablets. My blood count has now stabilised. When my counts were dropping my consultant was quick to act and I had to have weekly blood tests.I am no expert but if you are worried you should go back to your consultant and tell them if you don't feel right. X

I think it is normal to have some changes , but I certainly have become complacent , lt was a bit of a wake up call to see a change after all this time. Glad you have stabilised now hope you continue to stay in good health.
