Platelet count blood test

Can anybody advise when the best time is to have blood test for low platelet count thank you

There is no best time as far as I know. Your platelet levels can cycle by as much as 100K in a single day based on what is going on in your body. Your body reacts to bleeding, inflammation, injury by making more platelets. That is normal. It just means something a bit different when our bodies already make too many platelets. That is why we never react to any one read on a CBC. It is always the trend that matters. My platelet levels have gone up and down by 200K for the better part of 30 years when not on cytoreductive treatment.

Thank you for that, i think you are right, best reading ever at last blood test 462 and went after breakfast, have usually gone before, but it makes no difference.

I am not aware that any time of day is better than any other but having blood tests at approximately the same time of day each time can give a more accurate insight into the the results.

HiThere isn’t a best time - and you wouldn’t want a false reading anyway would you? Just go for it. Your platelets can be affected by loads of things and if you re worried you really should talk to your haematologist you know.

Thank you everybody i think you are correct, i was really pleased my platelets dropped to 462 best reading for 3 years, think will reduce the hydroxy,
