I've just started on the half of the lowest dose every other day.
it helps with my depression but makes me very drowsy, almost drunk, my tongue is numb, and I'm not hungry at all.

It's unusual not to feel hungry - many people find increased appetite and weight a problem! How long have you been on it? Drowsiness is very common. I had my dose at night.
Hi Sandra, I used to be on Mertazipine 15mg in the morning & 30mg at night. They made me feel very drowsy for the first while but it does soon wear off. Dont give up on them, they are a good med however they made me put on weight. I continuosly feel hungry. I said that to my Dr & she said its me who controls what goes into my mouth.
I am really desperate to get of the Velafaxine & have managed to cut it down, its slow & I've got councelling starting with CPN 19 Feb & between them & my GP I am hoping to go back to the Mirtazipne. At least I got sleep with it & ir does help greatly with anxiety.
I hope you are keeping well. I have not been on much. I am in my 3rd week of Chronic Bronchitis 3rd different antibiotic. I had a bad reaction to the last one, it brought me out in a mad bumpy raised red itchy & burning red rash its calming down now. I am also taking steriods, 2nd course & I'm starving all the time with them. Also on 2 different inhalers. I'm like a walking chemist with them & my Fibro meds.
I really cant wait to start with the CPN I need it so badly. I need to talk to someone professional about coping with the fall out of my paralysed brrothers marriage & how it wears me down mentally & physically with the Fibro. I feel so sorry for him but we where never close & it is now coming through. I am worrying about saying anything incase it causes bad feeling between us all as a family. So much has happend. I'd be here an hour trying to cram it in. Obviously I have not been able to see him with me having this bronchitis but not once has he phoned me to ask how I am.
I'll leave you in peace but hang in there with the mirtazipine.
Luv & hugs
Jackie xx
Hi
The usual time to try meds is for a month unless the side effects are unbearable, then if they haven't altered after 4 weeks go back to see the GP who will discuss whether another med may be better for you. Obviously if the side effects are worse then the initial depression and you feel able to manage without meds then you may want to reconsider, it depends on which is worse really. The first few times although I had unpleasant side effects fropm meds at first they soon wore off and then the meds were helpful, however last year I tried and the side effects were immediately dreadful so I came back off meds and have decided I can manage without, I've done that briefly twice, but have still stayed off. It really depends on how depressed you are and how much you feel you need meds. If you need them then stick with them for the month if you can, but see your GP if side effects continue to be bad. Good luck, Suexx
Mirtazapine didn't suit me as an ad. I now take sertroline which I find really good.
I still take M but only at night to help me sleep.

I was on Mirtazapine (45mg) for at least a year.
The only positive was that it helped me sleep.
The negatives were: drowsy all day after taking it, constantly hungry, increased anger..
Also, I found it was like being drunk when I took it. It didn't help my mood any but from what I have herd, these symptoms are common
I am on 30mg you should take them at night in bed and in morning when you wake you should feel fine. The med makes you hungry. If they working stay on them take them at night and you will feel better. It took 2months before I felt normal taking these!
