Mirtazapine

Started these tablets a week ago. They have taken every drop of my energy away.Even taken at bedtime, I can do nothing but sleep till lunch time the next day and I'm still prone to spells of tears. Will my mood lift? Will the terrible fatigue ease? Right now I feel far worse than before. Maybe they're not for me. Mornings don't exist any more.

Hello,

I am on Mirtazipine, now increased to 45mg. I've started taking them earlier in the evening, to see if I too can get my mornings back.

Not sure if it will make any difference, but thought I'd give it a go, as my apt with psychiatrist next week is scheduled for 9.30am !!! (Actually, note to self - get that changed, as if you'll be up and dressed by then!)

You'll hear this loads - but do give it more time, unfortunately there's no quick remedy for depression, and we need to give the medication a chance to work for us

E

xx

Thank you for your reply. I know about antid's and the length of time they can take to work as well as the side effects. It was my doctor who told me to take them at bedtime but you are right. The answer is to take them earlier in the evening ans so be back to nearly normal by morning. I still wake up in the middle of the night though and am starting to have those very lucid dreams again. One thing I'm sure of is I can't have a normal life without tablets of some kind. I'm looking forward to brighter days in the weeks to come. Getting my mornings back to normality is crucial. Myra.

I am on Mirtazapine too. I was put on it because of my anxiety and sleep issues. As my Pdoc explained it: "You haven't slept properly for over a year but in order to get better, you need to sleep well. So what if it's 12 or 15 hours." The first couple of days in I felt really loopy during day time and then things slowly started to get better. I now take 7,5 mg every other night around 8-9 pm to have my mornings and avoid cravings.

Unfortunately, this medication cuts the signal that tells your brain that you are full. I knew this and figured that I will be able to control my portions but somehow ended up gaining 7 kg.

Please, give your body time to adjust. Most AD-s need 2-3 weeks to "kick in".

It's important to not rush and push, because it creates expectations and expectations can create barriers.

Is this the only med you are on? How much do you take daily?

What cravings do you have? I'm the opposite. I can't eat much at one time but I did put on a lot of weight when I was last on Sertraline. This is the only antid I am on but I do have Diazepam in the house in case of panic attacks. I don't usually take or need them. My dosage of Mirtazepine is 15mg per night. Thank you for replying to my post. Myra.

I have noticed that the following days I would crave carbs - crisps, candy bars and such. I can, of course, control myself and not buy any junk. Then I just end up wondering around my kitchen, looking into cupboards to find something to snack.

I allow myself a treat once in a while and it is amazing (and also scary) how much I can stuff into my stomach without feeling satisfied. It takes a good amount of self control and it seems that it is easier to not even give in to cravings.

Some people are very lucky and have no cracings with Mirtazapine.

I hope that you will find relief from this medicine. To be honest, I was shocked when about a week into my treatment my anxiety was gone. Only then I realised how bad it was. I used to think that this constant feeling on edge is normal.

Same here ! One of the benefits of mirtzapine.

I am in 30mg and makes waking up sluggish and still tired. I also suffer from dehydration with them as well.

It's a case of trying hard to make yourself get up and trying each day until you win.. I can just about get myself up by 10am now down from midday ..

Though the rest is good for you. I use music in the mornings now to motivate me to get up sort of works I think

No worries. What your experiencing is just the side affects. I am just getting use to my higher doseage but can feel the benefits. If you get overly concerned or experience any other side affects then read the leaflet in the box . Someone on here told me to read it and you will see the side affects or google it ...
