Keto diet for mental illness
I follow fairly strictly a low carb diet which is what Keto is as far as I’m aware.
Have done for about three years. It works for me as it stops me craving sweet things. Also I lost a lot of weight on it. It helps me maintain the weight loss to continue with it. I have over the last few months lapsed a little as in, my portions have gotten a little bigger, so must rein it in I definitely have felt healthier on this. I can’t do diets usually but once the first couple of weeks were done in this I found it easier as the cravings weren’t around, it also takes some determination obviously and some distractions ..I did a little more walking …I love meat, fish ,cheese, eggs etc so it suits me too.
PS I think If you feel healthier and better about yourself it does help mental health…
No, I’ve had a really bad year,
In my opinion it helps to make me feel better but not so far a substitute for meds…a bit like exercise it helps a lot but only you will know if you can chance coming off meds..I guess a combination of things could make it possible to come off meds but in my opinion not keto alone, only your GP could advise on this as it depends what meds you take too.
Best wishes
Hi
No I didn’t have a professional working with me. I researched online.
Should check with your Dr prior to starting any diet check it is suitable for you.
There is a lot of information online about the Keto or low carb diet. I eat a lot of chicken, fish, cheese, eggs as a rule, no bread pasta or potatoes which can take getting used to. But I’m used to that now.
Check out details on line there is so much information and recipes and tips.
Yes! I’m actually a specialist in keto for ADHD. My ADHD is now 95% gone and my PMDD (severe PMS) is 100% gone.
For me and the people I work with, it has been a miracle.
If you like I can send you a bunch of resources, including a directory of practitioners who are trained in keto for mental health.
