Does it make a person idiotic if someone tells them they have no chance with them yet they can't give up the hope that things will change?

As long as the person accepts and respects the other person's feelings and decisions, while fully moving on with his life without the other person, there's nothing wrong with hope -- certainly nothing idiotic.
