Coming off sertraline

Hello everyone

I have been slowly come off sertraline. The dr told me 50mgs a week until I was off them, then on to matazipine. I’m not going to lie I crashed big time it was the worst experience I’ve ever been through. Ended up taking a load of sleeping pills, and ended up on the mental health ward. I tried to call for help and was told that it will be hard , Now I’m like a zombie I’m trying to carry on as normal I have the crisis team coming out to me, who are going to transfer me to a hospital for help.

The Crisis Team will help and suggest the treatment pathway you need to take.

I am getting older now and because of my age I had to reduce all my pain medications, Anti-depressants and Cox 2 inhibitors for my joint damage. Yes it has been hard I have been on AD Medications on and of for fifty years now and it was very difficult because of medication dependency. New I have been placed on reduced dose and feel much better.

In your case it seems like you were tied up because of transfer of two AD Drugs, yes it is hard although in transfer in can be that much easier to ween of than on a new medication. However you are where you are. Sleeping tablets can cause many negative side affects and I wonder if that is where your trouble stems from. I was on Jellies for many years and found the withdrawal terrible if this is what is happening now the Crisis Team MAY wish get you dried out and then sort out your medication doses on a ward

When this happens you may begin to feel that much better and move on to a more peaceful life with a reduction of your medications. Keep us informed and good luck with the Crisis Team

Thanks Bob I don’t sleep even on sleeping tablets. The matazipine are making me feel very slow and empty.

Your Sleeping Tablets are not working any more, coming of them can be hard work. The Crisis Team will assist and decide the best way forward

The Anti-Depressant needs time, you will hopefully feel much better at about four weeks, Also the Sleeping tablet can cause problems you describe

Good Luck

Just had a four day break from Sertaline 50mgs due to my bad planning and not being able to get a Dr appt to renew my prescription. I didn’t have a traumatic comedown, but could feel the emptiness creeping back in, and wife noticed a difference. My Dr says to come off Sertaline, we’ll reduce to 50mgs every other day for a while, then every third day, etc. Makes sense to me. No recommendation for follow on meds. Good luck Webbl !
