Trying to change from Seroxat to Sertraline

I have been taking seroxat for years and come to the conclusion it does not help anymore. Doctor gave me some sertraline instead and the plan is to be off seroxat and onto 50mg sertraline in 3 weeks. I have read bad things about seroxat and withdrawl symptoms. Has anyone done this change before in such a short time?

Hi

I have in the last 9 months after over 17 of taken them come off seroxat all together.

I found it quite hard at first with the side effects but I guess everyone's different.

I found Cbt really helped me and although I'm having a tough time at the minute I'm able to cope.

Hope what ever you decide to do all goes well

I do not know what doseage you are at, but I was at maximum doseage when I came of Seroxat several years ago now. I came of over 4 weeks. I did suffer from withdrawal symptoms like shaking, nausea etc, but I was able to overcome these and start on another anti-depressant. I made the mistake of looking for information about the withdrawl symptoms and found that this heightened my anxiety over coming of Seroxat.

Your GP or Psychiatrist would not have suggested you do this without them being sure you are able to deal with it, and remember when you come off the Seroxat you can go on something that will help.

Good luck to you. Keep us up to date on your progress.

I am going to the GP today as I do not feel great and I have been off work. I went for CBT sessions yesterday and they said I can not carry on doing them while I am having panic attacks. I don't know whether this is supposed to be happening or its a side effect of coming off seroxat.
