I am on 150mg but my boyfriend has just broken up with me so i started to (on my own accord) take 200mg, but on really bad days i will give myself 250mg, is this bad?

It depends on what your taking. If your increasing your antidepressant on a bad day then that's not going to be productive. You will only feel the effects of the increase maybe days or weeks later.

oh sorry - forgot to say. it's sertraline. so if im feeling particularly sad on one day thee is no point in increasing my dose? I am feeling really bad recently do you think it would be more benificial of i asked the doctors for something stronger?

If I were you I would make sure my thyroid gets checked out thoroughly. Once I figured out I was hypothyroid I started taking levothyroxine and then my sertraline worked 1000 times better. Point being If you have a bad thyroid your antidepressants will work very slowly and it can take a very long time to feel the full therapeutic relief. Finding my thyroid disease was literally a life saver. I only found it in the emergency room after a drug overdose.

Rosie, it is important that you approach your GP before increasing your medication dose. You may suffer additional side affects that your GP has not planned for,

I wouldn’t go up without taking to a doctor and also u should only take 200mg as that’s the max u should have on sertraline I believe from what my gp told me
