Suspected BPD

Hello there

I have been for reviews with psychiatrists and they haven't diagnosed me with anything just told me to seek councillors & CBT, but they did mention possible personality traits?

so I have done cbt with no effect

I am now currently under a councillor and this is helping massively so I asked my councillor about this and she seems to think maybe a personality disorder as the things I do and don't like sound like BPD

so my question is do I get diagnosed is it worth the hassle?

I do already suffer with depression/anxiety/OCD (self diagnosed OCD)

These are what my most problems are?

Hate Changes

Had problems with over spending

Had problems with over/under eating

Had problems with self harm

Hate noisy places and loud things

Loose concentration easily

Get bored easily

Change moods easily!

Thankyou for reading this

Hi.

What does your counsellor think about getting diagnosed.?

How would it help you?

I have seen various responses to this, some think it’s helpful for them to know and be diagnosed for various reasons, others feel it is not helpful for various reasons. My own opinion is that for my situation, being diagnosed with some things, I don’t think would help..I tend not to like labels. As long as I can be treated and apply or be referred by my dr for various therapies etc to help..I gain knowledge on my mental health by exploring various avenues and having therapies...knowledge is a great thing..

I think some mental illnesses require a diagnosis to treat correctly, eg psychosis...

I hope whatever decision you reach is the right one to help you...

Maybe a chat with your counsellor around it would help..

Good wishes x x

Hello Lucy

Sometimes I wonder if the name of a diagnosis is that important, the treatment given is more important. Signposting a Mental Health Concern may offer you some form of comfort. Your Health Professional it following your concerns labels as Olivia says force you to research a conditions that in most cases are very similar to what was diagnosed in the first instance. It is more important you get treatments that will make you feel better

thankyou for your responses

she thinks its entirely up to me what I do if I choose to get the diagnosis or not im not sure what to do as she does suspect it but obviously she cannot diagnose it it has to be the "big wigs" as she calls it

But I'm not sure I can mentally put myself through that

the treatment I have is working so I may leave It alone

I don't suffer with psychosis but because I've had this for so many years since I was a teen and hid it I think for peace of mind for me to get a diagnosis would not necessarily be the ending but id know why I do what I do and why I'm like I am if that makes sense?

I just came on here for others opinions and advice really

PS thankyou for replying and advice xxx
