Hi Fappy and thank you for your post. This must be very difficult for you. Have you spoken to your GP about how you are feeling and how this is affecting your life? Please make an appointment as he/she will be able to help you. A course of cognitive behavioural therapy may be helpful. Your GP practice may have a mental health nurse attached to the practice who may be able to discuss with you some coping strategies to help you cope with and manage these feelings. I have found a website with a link that should be helpful to you--

Are any other members able to help Flappy, please? Thank you and best wishes.

Your first point of contact needs to be your GP or Family Doctor, then draw up a list of your worries and concerns this will help you remember the concerns you have, this will afford you more time to discuss your needs

Hi

I had similar thoughts about my children.

Are you getting intrusive thoughts or is someone telling you?

A lot of all our problems, i feel, is just that, FEAR. Fear of repeated bad experiences happening again, fear of the unknown, fear of possible bad futures. ALL is that, FEAR of what might happen. All i can say is, you have lived through the fear before, or you would not be feeling it. You are stronger than you give credit. You can overcome anything, and so can your kids. Live in the now because the future is not something anyone can predict. Did you expect to have experienced what you have or done ,are you where you expected to be when you where little predicting your own future? I know i am not. Live in the present and enjoy now, because now truelly is the only truth there is.

I hope you understand what i am trying to express, lol, sometimes i have difficulty with using words to express what i mean inside.

Ps. Try to avoid the scare mongering in the news, in soaps, etc, most of it is complete rubbish anyway, but it does build up fears unnessarially even if you dont notice it. Lol myself i hardly listen to the news now and feel better for it.

I get periods of being very anxious about something happening to my children. I don't have any answers, but wanted you to know that I know how you feel x

Hey, Flappy! This horrible anxiety doesn't have to rule your life! I have MS, which is a really bizarre disease. Symptoms can crop up out of nowhere and take any form. My anxiety used to go into overdrive when something popped up that anyone else would just ignore. Convinced that "the sky is falling", it exploded in my brain and I was sure that some huge catastrophe was looming on the horizon, even when logic told me it "ain't so". All is not lost!

It may sound a little hoaky, but your brain has the power to relieve your anxiety. Practicing regular relaxation techniques can change your whole outlook. I've been using a relaxation audiobook daily since last December, and I'm no longer constantly tortured with those out of control thoughts. Such a relief! Any regular relaxation routine will help, but I listen to "Anxiety Relief" by Dr. Martin L. Rossman. I still have small bouts of anxiety, but I have my life back! Making that investment in myself has changed everything. Good luck...you can do it!!
