I haven’t had a permanent job since 2014 when I was dismissed from my job with the council cause of my depression and time off. I have had several agency work and I am currently working, however the job that I am doing was advertised as a permanent post. I apply I was successful but the offer was then withdrawn as they won’t happy with my agency’s references as it was factual just dates. Now I am trying to find another job but just dint seem to be successful and now I have overheard the manager discussing advertising the role again. I am now anxious and tearful as I will lose money and end up on job seekers allowance and falling into debt again. I can’t face anymore rejection

Hi Queenie, sorry you are having a hard time at the moment and seem down.

However maybe some of this info could be useful to you. Does the firm have a Human Resource department that you could speak with? Also have you spoken to your boss about applying for the position on a permanent basis, and what you need to do to provide them with all your information that the agency didn't give? There is a possibility that the company is restructuring or due to financial restraints wish to stop paying for agency staffing, thus taking on some staff on a permanent basis.

At your local Job Centre there will be a Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) who you can book an appointment with to give you further assistance. Also you could look on the company's website to see if they have a box with 2 ticks in, this will say that the company are disability confident, and should ensure that they will endeavor to keep staff that have disabilities. In your local library or community centre there are community based employability teams - these can also help you.

Good luck and don't loose heart, please let us know how you are getting on.

Best wishes,

MAS Nurse & Moderator.

Hi MAS_Nurse is right. I will add one thing though, if it necessary to go back on JSA then ask your doctor for a letter stating that you can work so many hours and only do certain types of jobs because of your disability. The JCP will keep this on file and it will give you some protection.

I did this the last time I had to sign on and it really helped me. x

Thank you I will take your advice

Can you not reapply for the post, they do not say they do not wish for you to reapply.

If you have to leave pop into the Job Centre and ask to see the Welfare Officer, they can assist and act on your behalf, as explained by other correspondents below

Thanks for the advice, even if I did reapply they still won’t be happy with the recruitment agency reference - I did ask the team leader from the company that I was contracted to work if he would give me one but he won’t as HR advised him that I as I wasn’t employed with them he couldn’t do it

Whatever your situation is, if you need a new job you will need help to find a suitable posting, A recruitment Agency will help you search for a new position. However a Job Centre may able to take in consideration your illness.
