I am not sure if this post will be helpful to people but I feel compelled to share it. More than ten years ago my wife and I started a charity to house families at risk of imploding. Having fostered over 300 children who needed crisis care we thought the system was broken and it would be better to fix the family rather than remove kids. We operate 3 homes in Sydney. For years we have poured our lives into one particular family.
When I was in a psychiatric hospital last year we didn’t allow visitors to preserve my privacy. We did allow though two of the young people now in their 20’s who have lived in the charities first home to visit me. They showed amazing compassion and understanding. Today we had a fund raising bbq for the charity. These guys worked all day in 41 degree C heat.
The moral of the story is that when we give to the betterment of others, you never know when you may need to draw on that relationship.
