I've recently finished counselling and was feeling top of the world. But I find I fix the big problems then more worries fit in their place.

I'm picking my skin till it's painfull

And now I've started being incontinent of urine, as if having IBS wasn't bad enough.

So embarrassed and ashamed of myself all the time. I understand I have been through alot by why bow things are going good is my body sabotaging itself. I'm doing things without realising I'm 25 and feel 70

I am sixty eight and wish I was twenty five, If I knew then what I know now, that old saying I would live my life with a great deal more zest. I would also move onto other things and have greater expectations that I had then.

When you finish CBT or similar you need to understand what is expected of you and how to put things on a more positive track, remember little changes add up to large, hopefully sensible conclusions of what has gone before. CBT in some ways is like a Course that opens you up to positive changes in your life, you will hopefully conclude the bad problems you have had and open up to a more positive outlook in life. Only you can do that for yourself, you move on.

IBS can not only be caused by what we eat for example it can also be caused by churning and Anxiety. Wanting to always go to the toilet can be a habit, or you are getting older.

Again stress can still be a problem. At sixty eight I have the regulation weak bladder, it is really worse just before food. I can sit down to a meal and need to rise for a visit to the smallest room.

You mention picking your skin again that can be caused by stress or boredom. Given above I would suggest looking for activities that would divert you thoughts to much better activities. For example gardening, walking or something else like the GYM.

All above sounds like Stress although I would suggest you see your GP and explain how you feel. There are medications for both the waterworks or the IBS, if the need arises. You could also look on what you are eating or drinking. If you are on the Bevy, reduce your drink, also give the tummy time to relax after food. If you have supper allow two/three hours before bed.

bob, thanks for your response, I have only just returned to work, so thinking about it it could be the stress from that.

Ive mentioned to the Dr's that my IBS is getting worse, I don't drink alcohol and follow a fodmap diet which used to keep things under control now I'm back to taking mebeverin before meals and I also take sertraline which seems to keep the head steady. But with the IBS they keep telling me it will settle I feel like all the things I try I'm just failing and that's the hardest bit I'm trying to get better and have tried so so much for the ibs and to fix the anxiety. I suppose optimism may be the best medicine but that's hard to achieve.

You have just returned to work and you seem to be on medication to control your Anxiety. You ,are involved in changes that should introduce you to better times.

You are taking medications for IBS, your GP is expecting it will eventually settle, forget about it for now, give the medication time to work. AD drugs take upwards five weeks to work well.

Be Patient, good luck
