Been having very vivid nightmares every since I started taking anti-depressants and I think they may be causing them. Has anybody else had them? If so any advice with how to cope with them?

Can be dependent on how long you have taken this medication. This group of medications can cause disruption of sleep. You need to consider, how your condition is, generally at night

If you are unhappy after five weeks I would discuss the problem with your GP or other Health Professional.

If you are drinking before bedtime, or eating about two hours before sleep that can cause sleep disruption. However this can be quite normal as your body will be digesting food as you try and sleep If your Condition is unsettling you and prevents you sleeping your sleep can also be disrupted. That is why I suggest you allow time for your medications time to work.

I would consider taking medications about one hour before sleep, the medications can also have a sedative effect. That is why I take medications one hour before bed.

Always, if you feel something is not right, talk to your GP

Always read the instruction leaflet enclosed with your medication

Hi Kay how long have you been taking them at first you can have very vivid clear dreams, they will go back to normal it's the chemical change in your brain that the tablets effect.but they do balance your chemicals in the brain and different anti depressants have different effects.

Yes, I had this on sertraline. For some people it settles down after your body adjusts. It didn't for me - the nightmares were awful and I kept waking up in a cold sweat which made my sleep even worse.

If you are finding the side effects hard to cope with or find your depressive symptoms are getting worse, go and see your GP. They might be able to suggest something to help or support you to switch to a different antidepressant.

Good luck whatever you choose to do. It's a horrible side-effect to have to deal with.
