Hi, I am permanently in a bad mood always snapping at my family... but I don’t know why... the other day I was drinking with friends and all of a sudden flew if the handle in a massive fit of rage for no reason and I have no idea why. I haven’t seen a gp as just get palmed off. Anyone else experience this?

the first reason that comes to mind is sleep for me. even missing a few hours can dramaticlly affect your mood and is know to make people fly off the handle. how long has your mood been so terrible. has there been any changes since that you can think of. particularly with thoughts or ideas that return frequently, medications that you started or stopped taking, or diet.

Hi strangerTides, I sleep well but wake up feeling tired... my mood has been low for about 8months but no dramatic change tbh.. no new meds except contraception... no thoughts as such just really moody all the time can’t seem to relax or enjoy myself... diet could be better but not awful.. I don’t drink enough water though 🙈 I feel like I am a terrible mum as I am always on at them for no reason and quick to snap...

well moodiness can be caused my plenty of things, some physical and some mental.

honestly the best thing to do would be to talk to your gp. try to remember anything you can about things that changed in the last year.

dehydration can cause those kinds of moods i would drink more water regardless and perhaps get some tests for things like diabetes.

im hardly an expert myself but this is not something you should put off.

anything else happening that might signal why like dizziness or other health issues.

Thank you.. I am going to see my gp this week.. I get elevated heart rate sometimes but nothing major... I moved house and jobs in the last year so 2 big changes.. but I have 2 happy healthy children a very loving boyfriend and super supportive family so just don’t get why I would feel like this...

there are so many causes of irritability its hard to tell on your own. it could be anything from low blood sugar from diabetes to an over active thyroid or bipolar disorder.

you did mention not drinking enough water if you find yourself thirsty very frequently hyperthyroidism might be a good place to start looking.

if you were a bad mother i don't think you would care about affecting them. everyone has their own challenges.

I would love if you kept me posted :)

Contraception medication can affect your mood and also cause weight gain both reasons as why I stopped taking them. It could be anxiety and or depression too. Hope you get sorted

Thank you.. yes I think it could be my contraception that’s part of the cause tbh as I was in the pill felt fine but didn’t work then had the coil that’s when this all started pretty much... and I have gained weight too I am at my biggest ever I am not massive but uncomfortable in myself..

in reply toLaub

I think so too I wasn't aware you used a coil I thought it might have been the pill but there are different types of coils and one of them releases a hormone which could be giving u the mood swings and also bloating. My advice would be to make an appointment to see your doctor asap to see if he could give you something to help stabilise your moods they might prescribe antidepressant if they feel it will help. Contact your local family planning clinic and see what they say it could be that it just doesn't agree with you. Don't be hard on yourself.

we usually feel irritable about smaller issues. it can be helpful for me to think about how much something really matters. is it an issue that will be affecting me in say a week or a month?

Laub in reply toStrangerTides

I have no idea tbh... I am going to try drinking more and get some kalms as been told they are really good get some excercise and eat healthier and see if that helps :)

drinking tends to make people irritable as does caffeine. dont be afraid to message me if you feel overwhelmed i should be around.

Laub profile image
Laub in reply toStrangerTides

Thank you.. yes I think caffeine doesn’t overly help.. alcohol has been totally knocked on the head as NYE I went into a massive fit of rage for no reason and in that event I lost my life long best friend..

you seem so certain of that. if we think something is unchangeable and we believe it our mind makes us feel helpless. have you tried apoligizing?

StrangerTides profile image
StrangerTides in reply toStrangerTides

apoligizing tends to work better if you can show the other person you understand why they are upset.

I have apologised several times but she is the sort of person to not forget or forgive very easily unfortunately... maybe she will come around but who knows something that is out of my hands... I think my mood is changeable but it’s just working out how to do it and why my mind is in this funk for so long.. I do feel helpless, rubbish and pretty useless most of the time..

...I stopped drinking and only smoke dope... Best decision ever.

Laub in reply toPeaceplz69

I am a non smoker and not sure dope would really benefit me either. But thank you for the advice 😊

Any depressant isnt good for moods or mental health. :( edibles?

Laub profile image
Laub in reply toPeaceplz69

No not at all 😊 if it works for that awesome but not sure it’s the right root for me :) I am going to try kalms have heard they are really good so fingers crossed and seeing my gp and contraceptives as think that could be part of it.. I prefer not to go in anti-depressants if I can help it :)
