Help!

Hi all I’m new here. I’m worried about my 15 year old daughter as she seems to be completely out of control. She was diagnosed anorexic at 12 and bullimic this year, me and my husband have both been in the army and so she’s always been moved around. CAMHS have refereed her for dbt this week but I think there’s a bigger issue. She’s got severe attachment issues to anyone she like especially her boyfriend. She’s always doing bad things because she likes the thrill of it, for example she’s smoked weed and cigarettes and she regularly drinks alcohol. She’s self harms frequently and is always losing weight. She’s addicted to energy drinks too. Her moods are very irrational which is where the problem is, for example she could be have a hysterical breakdown one moment because she was 2 marks of an A and the next moment she’s watching videos laughing really hard. She’s always suicidal when she’s low and there’s never anything she does that isn’t an extreme. I’m worried. Do I have a self destructive child or is there another illness as CAMHS are completely ignoring the fact we think she’s possibly got something else wrong. I’m bipolar but these moods are too quick to be that.

Hello Jimbob27

Thankyou for your message and welcome to this community. It does sound as if you are having a struggle.

Have you considered talking again with the children's mental health doctors or support workers?

You are really supportive and caring parents and are coping with your own issues as well. Perhaps you could tell us more about you and the whole situation, so our members can help and support?

In the pinned posts there are guides on mental health issues and crisis support lines.

You may also want to consider getting in touch with MIND mind.org.

Thank you for sharing with us.

I no experience in your situation.

Could I suggest that administratively, you could ask for a case review within CAMHS. The organization should have a policy on how to do this, either in writing or on the phone.

Another option is to get a second opinion from a child psychiatrist on referral from a GP.

Importantly, for your daughter's sake and your own, don't give up on finding a solution.

Take her to a psychiatrist for children for an evaluation if you haven’t already. It could be anything. I have general anxiety disorder and used to have suicidal thoughts. Eating disorders are often with depression or other mental illnesses. I don’t want give u advice as I’m not a doctor. Medication can help.

Thanks for all the responses. We had another CAMHS appointment yesterday and they’re looking at medication. She’s stopped talking to her normal physiatrist and the new one she’s with seems to be getting a lot out of her which is good. I think they belive it’s a mood disorder as she’s apprently got every classic symptoms of bpd. If anyone has any expiernce please help.
