Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a good night's sleep, or even a block of 3 or 4 hours? I need my sleep, and since starting on a new antidepressant (Sertraline) I am struggling to stay asleep for longer than an hour at a time. It is really getting to me.

I apologise if I am not allowed to mention it but I use a herbal remedy called melatonin. It isn't sold in the UK due to EU regulations but it is freely available elsewhere. It is a naturally occuring substance that is in lots of fruit and vegetables. I originally bought it because I read it can help with acid reflux, and although it didn't help with that I did notice that it made me tired after about 20 min. It shouldn't make you oversleep, it just regulates your sleeping pattern so you get a better night's sleep and more rest.
I bought a bottle of 120x10mg on eBay, and as far as I know it is ok to import it for you own use, you just aren't allowed to sell it here. It is usually in 10mg capsule form, but I open the capsules and sprinkle 1-2mg on my hand and swallow it with water as 10mg is way more than I need. After a few days or weeks you should be able to ease off it and just use it when you feel you need it.
The things that help me to sleep: colouring in, wordsearches, sudoku, or reading.
Experts say you should shut down all screens at least one hour before bed because they are stimulating. That means your phone too. I don't have a problem with screens myself but I know it's a nation wide problem. I tend to watch TV (a 20 min programme I have seen several times already) before going to sleep. If it's a new programme, it provokes too much visual thought therefore I'm better off with something familiar. Sudoku makes you think but I find it tiring as I'm not good with numbers so it helps my brain to switch off when I'm already tired.
Also, ensure you're active during the day. You won't sleep if you're not physically tired, no matter how mentally drained you are.
Hi! Have you asked your doctor for sleeping tablets? Sadly doctors are strict regarding these tablets. Have you tried herbal supplements? There are many sleeping aids at the herbalists.
I got some Temazepam from my doctor yesterday, as I was crazed from lack of sleep and anxiety.. I slept through the night, but I know Temazepam is short term use only...
