Hi Jorna. You sound in a very difficult place and we don't really know much about you to advise, but it seems like some useful talking through things would be helpful. Samaritans may be useful in this regard, depending on who you speak to at the other end of the phone, but if you don't get on with one person you can just phone again.

Good morning Jorna, I have joined this group because a close relative is suffering depression and I want to understand how I can help and learn from other people's experience. After several months it has been a very steep and difficult learning curve, but the 3 main things I have found out so far are:

1. There is plenty of help out there and available but it is about finding the right help for you. For example, is it a counsellor (and what type?), is it a GP, or the local mental health team? In our case, after being passed from pillar to post for months, a caring and competent NHS psychiatrist has at last taken control of the situation and is offering the appropriate advice and treatment.

2. Following on from this, it is also about getting an accurate and clear diagnosis.

3. And following on from 2, it is about getting the right medication for you.

I hope you find the appropriate people to help and support you.
