I've a few incidents with birds in the house but they were both when I got home from work recently. Did manage to get both out of the house though in one case it was unfortunately into the waiting jaws of a neighbours cat
Didn't sleep very well Thursday/Friday as cat had brought in a brown long-eared bat that was still alive - not well enough to fly but the problem was getting it somewhere and isolated from the cats. Took it to the vets Friday morning so they could contact a bat specialist - didn't look as if injuries were life threatening and it seemed reasonably alert when I handed it over. Did sleep much better last night.
My big problem in the summer months is the cats bringing in (male) frogs - they really do scream incredibly ... and the problem tends to be I rescue them and return them to the pond only for the cat to bring it in again 20 minutes later. Never mind I love my cats but there isn't really much you can do about the hunting instinct. Have had a long talk with the female cat who is the bat snatcher and explained that I really don't want her catching any more bats - but don't know if it will have sunk in ... my 'cat' is a bit basic.
Last night was the joy of a female frog being brought in - so no squealing but manic chasing round the bedroom - fortunately I was still reading at the time.
