Hi John, you want to belive?? I think a lot of people are diagnosed with depression who still live fulfilling lives. It will be tougher for those people who are suffering from depression but they muddle through. You say you've been dealing with it for years?? Good on you!! you obviously have the strength to fight it so you keep on fighting it!! I believe you can get better and you should too.

I firmly believe i'll find happiness because if you give up then you let it win and you let it control you. I believe in being a fighter and getting up when i get knocked down. Best of luck to you John.

BELIEVE!

It will get better with the right attitude, medication, mind control methods, support and keep believing that it will get better and never give up. If you feel bad it is only you who can turn your life into the right direction, which is a long and continuous process, accept you are not well and move towards over taking the dark sides of the mind

Because after all the anxiety, doubt and misery, I still feel like what's the point? Thanks for taking time to respond

I still have anxiety and doubt, maybe minimised the misery, but look forward to the good bits with family and catching up with friends.

The point for me is to get back on track with the good stuff in life I used to enjoy more and connect with people that still value my friendship and need my support.

Depression has taken a lot away but it is still there to claim back for me.

Hi John

I have been through several episodes of anxiety and depression over the last 10 years or so.

I have got better.

Medication and counselling and CBT therapy have helped me and i would recommend you try them all too.

I am now off the medication and doing well using the techniques I have learned through therapy.

I can now take control of those negative thoughts, let them pass and get on with the real stuff that happens.

There are always situations that trigger the negativity, challenges with a teenage son - and he is just 11, little work when self employed leads to concern over money and mortgage and just being busy enough to get out and meet people.

The talking therapy has helped me put stuff into perspective when my depression was only letting me see and feel the worst of lows and highs.

I am now talking to old friends again when my depression left me isolated.

I still get the negative thoughts but they no longer spiral into the suicidal ones and imagined catastrophes which never really happen.

I have days in which I am not touched by negative thoughts and find those remarkable after so long dealing with my invented demons.

As others have said, you must have had strength to keep going over the years.

Make sure you are not dealing with the illness on your own.

Seeking support and more exercise were the starting points for me.

Accepting that it will still be around and learning to manage it has been tough but not as bad a dealing with the depression in the first place.

Don't wait for the belief, it may not come if your thoughts are elsewhere. Just take a few steps to manage it and take strength from being more in control.

My belief came after successfully changing my thoughts and responses to the illness that i have.

I am confident now it will be a smaller and smaller part of my life as I spend less time thinking about the negative stuff and choosing to act on the challenges about me - as we all have to do no matter what our minds are telling us.

Good luck

Dave

Thanks for taking time to reply. I think just what I needed to hear.

Keep maintaining your hope and tell yourself that there are good days too, which you had and which you will have soon.... Postpone anxiety / sadness and tell your mind Ok! I will give you time not now but later. It works some time for me.

Hi John,

I’d start by speaking to your GP, see what he/she says and maybe try to see if theres a medical cause for who you’re feeling ( I felt rubbish for a long time and I was anaemic)

Your Dr. is the first place of call to get referred onto the right people. It sounds like you cope very well by yourself but there’s a reason why you’re here today. There’s a whole book on treatments for depression.
