How long do u think it take help me

You may need to be patient, we are all different, for full cover several weeks. You may feel better in about three days to one week with being used to taking them a little longer. It all depends on the dose and your weight etc It is very difficult, your GP will give you a good idea. I am no GP so you will get advise from the Surgery

Hello Gemm

You have the answer below, depending on your body system the drug could work at three weeks although the side affects may last for some time and the full benefit of the medication could be about six weeks, if this is the case your GP may want to up the dose or change the medication. Your GP will most probably not want to change your medication as it will take another few weeks for those to get into your system.

Giving periods of time for these drugs is not very easy as all patients are different and their conditions vary in severity.

It is more important that you take the drug and give yourself time to get used to their contraindications, and then the full benefit of your drugs will kick in and all will be hopefully ok.

I have been on my medications now for near on five/six years. Generally I am calm although sometimes I will give as good as I get. If all works well fair enough.

Some people take these medications for a short period of time and are brought of them for the rest of their lives. Sometimes people go of the drug to be put on them again at a later date then the medication will be withdrawn again.

In my case I will be on them now for the rest of my life.

Please do not worry, it is like all medications

Ok. Feel not ready for work

Hi Gem I have been on sertraline for around 6 years now and they suit me really well. I can't remember how long they took to work but I remember the guidelines of around 3 weeks. It is possible you will feel worse before they kick in but if after a month of so you are not feeling any better go back to your doctors as the dose might need to be upped (or lowered) or something else might suit you better.

Sertraline was the 3rd ad I tried and sometimes it is trial and error. x

What is worst side effect of the tablets I got

in reply togem28

Hi it is different for everyone but my worst ones are nightmares and a dry mouth. Also if I miss more than a day I feel a bit spacey and off colour. If you google it you can see possible side effects. x

in reply togem28

There will be a paper in the box of the medication, the list is quite extensive, your contraindications if you get any of them will be extremely selective and you may not have any problems at all. Again all depends on the patient, it is no good looking for these problems People on site here will not be able to tell you we are all different. I have been on these drugs now on and of for thirty years or so because my condition is caused by chronic pain. I get on with life as I am sixty five in eight weeks. I wonder if I will get some birthday cards ?.

It horrible feeling when u feel low and alone . Sign my self off

in reply togem28

If you need a chat and support you know where we are. It is no good worrying, that is the last thing to do, Look on the whole thing as a chemical imbalance and it is the job of the drug to build up that problem

I didn't get much joy from Sertraline, I was better on Citalopram. It's a widely prescribed antidepressant though, so I'm guessing I was in the minority!

Most meds take a few weeks before you start feeling better and side effects usually ease off around the same time x

I was better on citalopram too, but they stopped working at the end of last year, I've tried sertraline for 2 months with no affect so now on Trazadone, early days, waiting for it to kick in, wish it would hurry up lol x

I was prescribed Sertaline yesterday as well. Message me as to how you are getting on. I believe it can take weeks for things to be improved. I wish it was today because its so so bleak for me . I wish I hadn't let it go on so long and get to such a stage.

I'm depressed as I have a chronic condition that means i m in pain all the time and my activities are very restricted.

I'd really like to know how you get on. What's your initial dose ?

Take care

Been on Sertraline for 9 years. Started on 50ml, increased to 100ml and now increased to 150ml. Dry mouth, weird, vivid dreams and now am still depressed. The tablets worked for me to begin with and for a few years but right now I'm crying a lot and feeling really down in spite of the 150ml dosage. What now?
