I had to give notice at work 3 months ago due to anxiety with depression. After working all my life hardly ever having any time off sick this was a shock to me....
I have been claiming ESA (sick pay) since. My Dr prescribes sick notes which I forward on....I was prescribed Citalopram which I have decided not to take and have informed my Dr of this.....I have just finished CBT therapy which was useful in understanding what is wrong with me...the therapist at CBT has now arranged counselling 6 sessions , to begin in 2 weeks....
I'm not ready to go back to the work place and it has taken me a long time to realise this I thought after a couple of weeks break from a stressful role and I would be back out looking for a job....I tried a couple of hours voluntary work about 3 weeks ago and went to pieces..., is it difficult to remain on sick pay over a long period of time....any advice or experiences of the system anyone has would be appreciated.... I understand an appointment will soon come through from occupational health to see them which I will receive I guess over the next couple of weeks......
Thank you

I am afraid it is not good news I have to tell you. I too had to be off work on longterm sick for physical and mental health issues after working all my life. I applied fr ESA and was turned down, I have Fibromyalgia, Emotional Anxiety Disorder, Depression, panic attacks, severe migraines, IBS and bladder probs and still they recon I should be able to work. I am not to bad my husband works but life has been difficult living on 1 wage. The battle does get easier, I think, I went back to work 1 and half yr after giving up work, although just part time. I have an approachable employer though. I still have panic attacks on going into work and anxiety issues but its getting better. I am off work just now and waiting to start a new job but that was due to funding for my post. My mental health has suffered again since being off work. Find an interest or try something new. I have been doing meditation and hypnotherapy from UTube helps me sleep if nothing else. Talk again.
