Hi there, I'm 4 days into week three and the stitches haven't dissolved yet, is it normal?

None of them or some of them?

Mine took between three and five weeks and it varies by individual. Unfortunately doctors usually say a couple of weeks which I think sets expectations and is misleading. Be patient.

Thanks for the tip

Please provide some links to back up your assertion that “most sites” say 10 to 14 days. NB. Credible medical sites, not forums.

So that was just a throwaway line, you made it up.

Were they soluble stitches your nurse neighbour took out for you and does that make you an authority on circumcision healing?

No need to discredit each other guys, we're here for advice and all your advices are very much appreciated. Thanks

Because bad advice can be harmful and shouldn’t go unchallenged. You have no personal experience of circumcision and yet you’re on here every day giving people false information about removing stitches and putting ice on swelling. Neither are based on medical fact but merely your own biased inexperienced opinion. The other remedy in your cupboard is coconut oil for everything which is probably harmless.

This isn’t your own private club. If you’re going to post quack remedies on a public forum then be prepared to have these questioned and be able to provide evidence of their efficacy.

It isn’t trouble making, it’s protecting the vulnerable from making their problems worse.

If we're talking about personal experiences, I believe that it's different for everyone. I have seen people here talking that their stitches dissolved fully within 2-3 weeks while it took much longer for some people. In my case, first stitch dissolved somewhere around the end of week one, and then they were dissolving in a slow but stable rate. Then between week 3 and week 4 few of them were still there, looking looking like they will not dissolve soon, but then during week 4 they started to loosen up and dissolve - I personally almost never noticed when they actually dissolve, I just see that I have less stitches from time to time, when I inspect my penis. During week 4 I just had the frenulum ones (like a big yellow crust made from stiches and lymph which just fell off in my underwear one day) and maybe a few more. I'm on day 31 one now and tbh I'm not even sure if I have any stitches left or they all dissolved, I stopped paying attention. They are made to dissolve, and they will dissolve, just be patient. There is no consequence if they don't dissolve during the 3-4 weeks period, I see people here talking that it will leave you with bigger scars, but my doctor never told me to come back if they don't dissolve until day XY so I don't think that longer dissolving can do you any harm. Just be patient and inspect the situation frequently, wash them when you shower (heard here that salt baths help them dissolve faster) and nature will take care for everything - I saw guys here talking that they still have some stitches left 2 months after the surgery! If too much time passes and they are still.not dissolving and they bother you, then visit your doctor and have them removed.

Spot on, absolutely right and excellent advice.

In the UK our health system is at full stretch. Telling guys on here to go and pester their doctor or worse still, visit their local emergency department, if their stitches haven’t disappeared after three weeks is so irresponsible and infuriating. It’s a terrible waste of people’s time that could put others in genuine need of urgent attention at risk.

Everyone should just be patient and wait for the process to work out by itself.

It's not even about "bothering" your doctor - for me it's so misleading and confusing to set standards like that ("your stitches will dissolve within 3 weeks", "it takes 4 weeks to heal" etc). I mean, we are all different - we have different genetics and different organisms and body types, different age and different overall health state, different lifestyles and different habits, different climate etc, so how could we possibly all heal at the same rate? Like everything else, things go differently for different people - how do you think they set these standards? For example, they ask 100 people about their healing process and then they take an average rate - but rate being average doesn't mean that it has to apply for everyone.

Stop making up nonsense about what happens in UK.
