I have a question about HIV that is causing a lot of worry and strain on me currently.
I had protected sex (receptive anal) with another man last week with someone I didn’t know very well at all. He finished in the condom and there were no breakages.
After I was concerned that there may be some risk of catching a STI and specifically HIV as I didn’t know him well at all, so I asked him and he said he’s negative and STI free, gets checked out regularly...but I’m still so concerned that he could have recently caught something after his last test
Not wishing to sound silly as I have researched this...but haven’t had sex in quite a while so quite concerned that something might happen as a result of this. Biggest concern is if the other man lied about his status.
Thank you in advance for any help

If you had fully protected sex with him James your risk should be close to zero. If you had unprotected oral sex, the risk is extremely low from this , unless there are other risk factors like bleeding ulcers etc. Even if he was positive - 95% of patients in the UK are on treatment and undetectable which also means untransmissable, The very fact he goes for testing is encouraging
Instead of guessing what you will possible get (either STI or HIV) and worrying, if I were you, I will definitely get to the sexual health clinique to get a full checkup. If you are still concern about the test results, I would suggest you to stop having sex at all for another 3 months after you have first tested, then do the full testing again, this will ensure you are cleared completely from HIV or any other STI.
