So I've had Jock itch for about a month or more. I've tried powders, creams, oils, ointment, rubbing alcohol, zinc oxide, Lotrimin AF/Ultra, etc... nothing helped. I even tried bleach baths which seems to work ok, but the actual rash never really improved, not to mention the harshness of bleach on you genitals... dries everything out, and can get in the urethra and cause irritation and inflammation there.
So I kept looking through forum posts after forum posts for solutions... Apple cider vinegar, onion mash, honey, more bleach, more lamsils and lotrimin creams at $20 a hit for a tube shorter than my big toe. Ridiculous garbage. That's when I decided to not treat the actual fungus growth with moist applications, but attack it from the environment aspect.
My first instinct was the dry the area out with alcohol... this burned like crazy and made things far worse to bear. Then I tried hairspray. Still burned, but this would likely form an air/water tight seal and I had used this method on my feet before and it worked like a charm after nothing store bought would. This was also a bust as my day to day and even during sleep would promote sweat in the area and cause the hairspray to run and peel up. That's when I dug out a tossed Degree Antiperspirant applicator from the trash, and raked out the last of the contents into a small dish. Keep in mind, this is the 24hr tough stuff, and while using a new deodorant applicator would be easier, I wasn't going to toss away a new deodorant to my jock itch if it didn't work, or even if it did... since using it under your arms afterwards wouldn't be recommended. I then mashed up the deodorant into a paste and began applying it to the jock itch between my legs, groin, and up my butt crack, and went to bed. I woke up to the area being completely dry and the rash being 30% of what it was the day before. There's discoloration still, but it's not nearly as bright red and inflamed, and there's no itch or burning either! Today is day two and I just applied more, and the rash is definitely going away!
To conclude, if jock itch has been plaguing you and you've found little to no relief from the symptoms using any of the above methods... pick up an old deodorant antiperspirant stick and use it... or if you don't have one, spend the $3 on it. Cheapest possible cure I've seen bought in a store so far for this. The creams and powders literally keep you going back to the store and buying more, like some vicious cycle.
