I had really thorny stitches like that too, sometimes they would pierce into my scrotum and that was baaaaad. So every morning I put neoprene around the rim of the head where the stitches are. This softens them and is also a pain reliever. Then I wrap the area tightly in gauze and tape it around. This helps the lotion soak on and keeps the stitches lying flat down and away from the body.
