I’ve had phimosis for probably the last 6 years and am finally getting an op my consultant said I’d need a circumcision and I’m scheduled to have the procedure done in august. I’m extremely anxious about having it done in regards to pain and the healing process, I’m also worried that I might lose some size I’ve heard horror stories about short cuts and people saying they’ve lost inches ect it’s only 6.5 as it is so I don’t really want to lose any and it could affect my sexlife. What is everyone’s experience with this and any tips for aftercare ect is appreciated.

circumcision coming up
I personally just found out I had phimosis recently I’m most likely going to go to my GP soon and figure out what the plan is did they tell you that you had to have the surgery or did they give you any other options?
Hi If you get chance, please take some time read all my concerns posted under this forum following the similar procedure on 23 January 2023 (almost 17 months now), still not recovered. I wish you all the best.
Healing experiences can vary a lot, based on the posts here. My healing (also to address phimosis) was pretty smooth - the first couple of weeks were uncomfortable, but I didn't need any pain relief after the pain blocker applied during the op and I didn't have super sensitivity of the glans. If you've had phimosis for six years you may have greater sensitivity, but that seems to vary a lot too.
My recommendation is to get yourself some really soft but fitted underpants to keep stuff where it should be. A cricket box (worn between to pairs of pants) can be good for nighttime protection.
For me, one of the most confronting things is that uncircumcised masturbation is very different from pre-phimosis.
Don't panic - do your research here and you'll get a lot of tips for post op care and healing.
Already you are benefitting from the experiences of those who have gone down the path that you are on and also those who have experienced post-circumcision life. I hope that the support of this forum will make your journey more informed and less scary.
Hi. Click on my profile for my post on my experience. Now at 7 weeks after procedure, I'm glad I had the operation, but there were up and down times. Pain wasn't an issue though, nor size reduction, hypersensitivity was the worst thing which has all but gone now. Good luck.👍
Hey bro. I had phimosis and adhesions - couldn't solve one without the other staying the same. Was offered steroids for the phimosis, but it wouldn't solve the adhesions. Was offered detachment surgery for the adhesions, but it wouldn't solve the phimosis and they would probably reattach. So... circumcision was my only course to solve both in one swoop. 4 months healed now and no regrets whatsoever. Sex is better, hygiene is better, look and feel is better - it didn't feel like it in the first few weeks, but it's gotten better and better with every passing day. I've had a really good experience - it wasn't easy in the first weeks, there is discomfort, but as you heal it improves. You got this, and we're all here.
Another smooth sailor here (compared to how terrified I was beforehand). I haven’t lost size, probably gained a little tbh or certainly a better appearance. As everyone here says, assuming everything goes smoothly with op and recovery, it’s uncomfortable at first but can heal really quite quickly. It looked healed and had reduced massively in terms of sensitivity by weeks 4-6. After that it’s just been almost daily improvements.
In terms of aftercare, if you can’t cope with the sensitivity at first (and that will likely be a mental thing rather than serious pain) then a cricket cup is perfect. I used a cup and gauzes with Vaseline, though I’d actually suggest avoiding the Vaseline if you can, for hygiene reasons. Salt water dips, regular showers (in line with what your consultant tells you) and a little further down the line people seem to swear by certain oils and ointments but I’ve not found it necessary.
Good luck and wishing you smooth sailing ⛵️
In the first week or so, did yours appear to look smaller? I had what felt like an erection, but my penis hardly grew, only about 1/2 bigger than when flaccid, then again, it didnt stickup or anything. Is this normal?
Hey you're not alone. A number of guys here report perceived loss of length after getting circumcised. Your penis has had a bit of trauma and will take a while to recover. In my own case, I lost about 2ins when erect but it gradually came back over time and with usage. You're early in your recovery so be patient
Thank you so much man! i needed this closure. I started already regretting the surgery, but I will be patient. Once again, thank you!
You're welcome. I know I panicked when I thought I'd lost so much length and I hadn't found this forum at that point. Once you get night erections, that will get the blood flowing again and help sort your penis out even though they're inconvenient. Just ask if you need anything else. Any of the guys on here who have been through the same will be happy to help if they can
I have gotten 1 waking erection, but when i woke up it was as I said hardly any bigger than when flaccid. I presume this may have been a semi erection? or slight arousal, because it was only 1/2 my flaccid size bigger than when im flaccid. I appreciate the help! :), I presume it may because of lack of stimulation and the stitches, they have yet to dissolve but should be within the next 4 days as doctors say.
Yes the stitches tighten everything up which is why night erections can be uncomfortable and you feel that you can't get a full erection. Once the stitches fall out, things will get easier.
Hey quick update… On Day 7 now (Original comment was Day 5) and I woke up with a more like itself erection!! id say it was only about half an inch off my full size, likely due to the lack of sexual stimulation as it wasnt sticking up. A massive increase from beforehand! Thank you for the reassurance!
I think the idea you will look smaller is an urban myth - the pain is pretty horrible for a few days afterwards - make sure you take a week off work because the discomfort does slow you down. Far better to endure this than a life of discomfort - and you will probably find that both male or female partners will find your "new" penis very attractive (and another advantage is that you will last longer in bed). Good luck, I am sure this time next year will find yourself much better and more confident.
You've got some good responses here and the only thing I would add is, if you have questions ask your consultant /doctor beforehand. Write them down before you go so you remember. Mine wasn't that bad actually, apart from sensitively and the night erections. Everything will feel tight for a while which might give the illusion of less length but it will sort itself out as you heall
Don't worry it will be fine. Way better to be circumcised trust me.
Just had mine done a month ago, first two weeks are gonna be hell and you just gotta live with it. Things get much much better after that and almost 5 weeks post op I feel almost back to normal except for when I go to the gym. As for size, I actually think I got bigger because due to my phimosis the head actually did not reach it's full size when erect which was something I did not expect at all and was a shock to me post op lolVaseline and Neosporin are your friends. Other people said salt dips but I never did that so you'll have to take their word for it. Masturbation is a little funny but I'm assuming it'll get more comfortable over time
Yeah, second that feeling about the first 2 weeks, definitely the worst for me. It all gets better from there. I'm positive my head is bigger... like, so much bigger than before and everything seems thicker too, which I'll take. Eventually, I stopped using Vaseline (but did find it really helpful in the first month or so) and oils - things proceeded faster with healing without Vaseline and oils.
Mine actually 'looked' bigger afterwards, but 6.5" isn't bad so don't say only.
You should be fine any loss would be minimal and possibly only short term.
Do all your research first so you are absolutely certain it is what you want. Afterwards, be prepared. Some are fine others suffer extreme pain, take painkillers as and when needed. Tight pants really do help to keep things still. Movement = pain ! At least for a while. Rinsing in salt water helped me, then moving on to bathing in very mild baby soap.
Bio oil will help with scar healing and I used coconut oil to keep it moist, others prefer to let it dry. Personal choice.
Good luck, it can be a hard journey but you wil get through it.
