6 days post circumcision concerns

I’m on my 6th day of recovery from a full circumcision, and although the incision wound looks to be healing well I have a few concerns.

1. The head of my penis feels very sensitive as you would expect, however below the head where the stitches are feels very tight and is making the head feel as though it’s being slightly choked. This is uncomfortable but is something I can live with if it’s just something that I’ll feel during the recovery process and not a permanent thing.

2. The shaft of my penis looks as though it’s got a lot of excess skin and is like a thick ring going around the shaft. I’m not sure if this is just swelling or if there excess skin remaining from the surgery.

Both concerns I’m hoping will resolve themselves as I continue to heal, but thought I’d ask the question on here in case anyone else has experienced something similar.

This all sounds pretty normal to me. What you are describe is how I remember mine looking and feeling. For me, the tight feeling did ease when the stitches started to come out and the erections became less painful. Though, if you are concerned ask your Doctor.

Thanks for your reply, that’s given me some encouragement! Did you also have the swelling on the remaining skin on the shaft or do you think it’s excess skin from the procedure?

Hi Chris. Nothing you say sounds unusual. The thick ring is swelling, I had it, it will go. My cut was 'medium' meaning there is some loose skin. When I am soft it rolls down a little way over the head, but I didn't observe that until all swelling had gone. Your head will be sensitive for some time, but that too will go. Vaseline helps stop it rubbing and I wore tight pants, keeping my penis upright which really helped soreness from movement. My frenulum area was sensitive for some time. Overnight erections will feel like they are pulling stitches apart - they won't (but never be tempted to make use of these arousals!) Only other good advice I had was to bathe it in salt water daily to prevent infection and promote healing. I dipped it in a pint glass of salt water and swilled it around - don't rub it. Avoid soap in shower too. I'm 4 months post op. I was cut due to tight phimosis. Good luck!

I’m on day 7 now and i feel very similar, the swollen skin is hiding where the stitch line is. I have started to get a bit of bleeding from this area as well.

This all sounds very familiar, mate. I'm 2 months post-op now and both those issues you describe are things I experienced around the same time as you. When the stitches start coming out all that swelling and pain on the scar line will begin to subside and feel more manageable. It's easy to forget that the operation is very traumatic on a very fleshy and sensitive part of your body - swelling, bruising and tightness is all to be expected with stitches in. Vaseline and coconut oil have become my best friends over the past two months (and swabs to pack the pants in the early days when I was first getting mobile again), and tight underwear. How are you getting on now?
