Im a 20 year old male who has Phimosis,I didn't realise I had this condition until a few months ago I’ve had a few bad sexual experiences in the past and I wasn't sure what was causing it(I thought it was lack of experience as I lost my virginity at 18/19)and I when I met my girlfriend I realised Sex(without a condom) was painful and not only that but twice from sex and sexual activity and once from pulling my foreskin too far back in the shower I got paraphimosis which is where the foreskin is stuck and had to go to A&E,right now im in my second year of uni and have got lots of deadlines so I am planning to speak to a urologist after my exams and start with some steriod cream but I am ready for the prospect of being circumcised if it comes to that if anyone else is in my position I would love to talk to you about your own experiences of this condition.

I had a similar issue but steroid cream didn't help after using it 4 months. 8/10 times I had intercourse I'd get cuts/tears on my foreskin that frustrated both me and my partner. I eventually decided to get circumcised after 2years of hesitation. Surprisely 3 months on, I've healed remarkably and sex is no longer agonizing. I'm definitely happier.

You’re doing the right thing, see if stretching and steroids work,if not then get the snip.Iwas in your position at your age and I left it and put up with ever increasing discomfort until I had no choice but to swallow my embarrassment and see the doctor when I reached my late 40’s and getting circumcised.I wish that I’d done it when I was at your age,but better late than never,at least I can enjoy sex properly now for the first time in decades.

I'm a little older than yourself (I'm 72) I too had phimosis and suffered with its pain and lack of sexual activity for more than a year. I saw my doctor who referred me to a urologist who later recommended I have a circumcision.

My op was a month and 3 days ago. I opted for a Local anesthetic but you'll be given the option of a General if you wish. I'm in UK so had my op performed by our wonderful NHS.

The op was simple and pain free. It tool about 30-mins but I was in theatre for about an hour. I was released 2 hours after my op. I did not require gauzes or bandages or pain killers.

I walked 2 miles the following day and have done-so since and more. My stiches dissolved after about 3+ weeks.

If you're worried about seeing your doctor or the probability of an impending op I urge not to be. For me it was honesty no more distressing than a trip to the dentist with a painful tooth. Good luck to you. 👍

You are doing the right thing, concentrate on your studies and try stretching. I don't know any names but there are probably creams you can buy over the counter, ask Pharmacist.I had similar experience to yourself, getting stuck once, but I managed to pull the foreskin back up myself. Plenty of lube helped to stop the foreskin pulling back unexpectedly, but, at your age and in Uni' I suggest using condoms.

Apart from the first time when it pulled back and the time it stuck sex was always good with no issues.

If you are at university and you decide it is a necessity to get the operation, try to schedule it during the summer holidays when you can take some down time. Medics say it is a minor operation but my experiences have led me to feel it’s a bit more serious than that. The first week of recovery is very difficult. I was unable to work and had to take a week off. I couldn’t wear clothes for the first week and sleeping, washing and moving about were very uncomfortable due to the sensitivity. Thereafter, things have got better and on day 12, I am wearing tight fitting underpants, clothes and walking about normally. One tip I would give you is to have a support network in place for that difficult first week. I thought I wouldn’t need one but I did and friends and family were very helpful in going to the shops for me and visiting to keep up my morale (I live alone and found it hard mentally the first few days).

I had a diagnosis which although not the same as you it has the same symptoms. I went through 10 years of steroid cream and I was fighting a losing battle. I had many poor sexual experiences and many good ones but if you have the right partner she will understand. I was finally told in around 2013 I would need a circumcision. I ignored this advice as I was living alone miles from family. It was a great decision. I had heart failure in 2020 and wanted to fit me with a catheter but it was not possible. The circumcision question came up again and had this very recently. I had a number of complications due to my condition so having family taking me to and from the hospital was a godsend. Good luck
