I am in my mid-twenties and will be having a circumcision probably in about a month or so to remedy my phimosis (I have a tight non-retracting foreskin), although the consultant I spoke to could not give me an exact date. He also suggested that conditioning my glans beforehand may help me recover better following circumcision. Currently, my glans is acutely painful when touched, so I'm wondering how I can train myself to ignore the pain and convince myself that I am not harming myself. Is it just an extreme test of courage? Could I even use analgesic cream to alleviate the pain? Suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Should I condition my glans before circumcision?
When the foreskin can be retracted, it can be beneficial to keep it retracted for some while before circumcision to allow the glans to adjust to being exposed all the time. However, if you cannot retract at all then it would be impossible to do anything with the glans in advance.
Analgesic creams may help you get started on daily contacting your glans, but unless you actually feel the contact your brain cannot 'tune it out' as it does for the rest of your skin.
Eh, just get the circumcision and as you're healing, your glans will gradually understand it no longer has a foreskin covering it anymore. I was extremely sensitive for the first couple of weeks. I'm now in week 4 and I'm able to walk without having my penis wrapped in gauze. I still feel some sensitivity but it is not bothersome to the point of pain.
That's nice forward-thinking you're doing though. I remember in times past I used to try to walk around with my glans exposed and I couldn't do it for more than a few seconds. I could never commit to doing it because anything/everything that rubbed against it made me jump and/or scream. But now that I'm circumcised and don't have a choice, I've eventually adjusted to it.
