How to desensitize glans after circumcision.

I was circumcised 6 weeks ago (phimosis was the cause). My glans is still sensitive. I feel that it is not drying out as quickly as others have claimed theirs has. For sure, I know I have an over-sensitive glans.

I wanted to ask is there any way to desensitize the glans so that I can get use to wearing underwear normally? Is it a matter of taking it easy and training my mind on getting the glans use to be touched and rubbed by the underwear?

I do not bandage my penis when I sleep. Only when I leave the house do I bandage my penis so that I can tolerate walking.

I would recommend wearing tight supportive underwear, briefs or y fronts as they will stop your penis from moving about too much. I have never liked boxer shorts anyway so it was no problem for me.

Yes that’s what I did. How long did it take for your glans to desensitise?

Pre circumcision I had quite a short foreskin which covered about half of my glans, however the ridge was generally covered. Tight underpants generally kept the foreskin forward, although without underwear the foreskin would fully retract and bunch up behind the glans. When I was first circumcised the ridge area was quite sensitive but this reduced within about 2 months. Again wearing briefs helped.

The other benefit I had is that I had lazer removed all my pubic hair, so the area above my penis was totally smooth. Obviously if I had hair then it would not have been a good idea to shave as the stubble would have been painful to rub against. I recall that the doctor requested that I shave or trim my pubic hair prior to the procedure therefore if you have shaved then this may add to the sensitivity. Keeping the area cleanly shaved may therefore help.

Same to me, especially in the first years after circumcision, especially when bicycling and other activities, I used a good tight fitting underwear. When relaxing it isn't that much of a problem. I like to be more aware having a penis, so I lik the attention.

Contact with clothing and your hands during bathing while soaping helps out with the desensitisation . Also if it is really very hypersensitive , you can try Vaseline petroleum jelly or any other non fragrant non chemical moisturser on the glans.

Also I would suggest you to get more comfortable touching the sensitive area and slowly working up till you can glide your fingers over the area without the discomfort over the days . Slowly and day by day it can help desensitize you .

If nothing helps I suggest meeting with the urologist they might have an ointment for you. All the best !

nice. i will try this. I haven't tried the vaseline as i was trying to dry out the glans instead of sealing it in moisture.

I had good luck with using rubbing alcohol to desensitize. I use 70%. Soak a piece of cloth in it and wrap around head for 5-10 minutes at a time every few days. I used to not be able to stand the friction from underwear (and yes I wear briefs) but now I can easily freeball.

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to lsmith999

Did the 70% rubbing alcohol on the glans induce some dehydration and keratinization? I noticed you said only every few days, not every day. little by little i guess?

lsmith999 profile image
lsmith999 in reply to CutAt39

Yeah just little by little. Start small and do more often once you have a better feel for it. It doesn't take many sessions overall. But yes definitely encouraged keratinization. My glans are nice and dry these days

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to lsmith999

Did you notice that after showering, the glans seems to get moist and becomes a bit sensitive again?

lsmith999 profile image
lsmith999 in reply to CutAt39

No my glans stays the same level of sensitive now (not very). Yes it is wet after shower but even in shower the spraying water no longer bothers my glans whereas before it could be annoying to shower and position my glans away from direct spray. Now no matter how wet, still desensitized.

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to lsmith999

Nice! Exactly the results I am hoping for.

I will try this. every two days i guess? i'd rather approach it easily than overdo the alcohol. I am guessing the alcohol dehydrates the head a bit. I'll do it right after showering.

lsmith999 profile image
lsmith999 in reply to CutAt39

yeah just be sure to do 70% and start with 10 minutes. You can go to 20 once comfortable. I've even reapplied more alcohol to cloth while compressing it on glans because it will evaporate. It may cause some redness at first but don't be alarmed! It'll go back to normal after a day or two. Try to keep the alcohol soaked cloth primarily on the glans while compressing unless you're also trying to desensitize any inner skin left from circumcision too. I did alcohol compresses for a few months on and off so let me know if you have any further questions!

Do you use any lotions or moisturizers on your glans? Whether it's for masturbating, sex, or healing? I am trying to go with no ointments and moisturizers to promote keratinization on the glans.

lsmith999 profile image
lsmith999 in reply to CutAt39

I don't use any lotion or moisturizers at all. Pre cum for masturbation but usually just masturbate dry using a pair of briefs. Most days I use Gold Bond powder on my glans to keep it dry throughout the day

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to lsmith999

Hmmm.. i didn't think of that. Powder to keep it dry. Your results are exactly what I am seeking. Alrighty. I will give it a try.

Best of luck man! If you need further advice, I’m here

I’ve found age and leaving my foreskin back for long periods of time really desensitised my glans. It can withstand all sorts of “fun” that it couldn’t before.

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to

How long did it take to desensitize to a level you could walk and run comfortably again?

in reply to CutAt39

If I’m honest, not long. It took longer to “train” my foreskin to stay retracted

It takes time to get used to exposed glans so bear with it.

Some tips to fasten the desensitization is to dessicate the glans area 24/7 applying scent free talcum by gently apply on exposed corona sulci part carefully not to stuck inside incision and then dust off with tissue.

You should practice grit for sometime and bear this as process of keratinization of glans takes time. This is what is called tuning of penis. Once its gets this point its fairly easy to endure and you get acoustomed to circumcised state. Good luck

I'm starting to feel normal with the glans, but noticed that the part where the inner foreskin is exposed is feeling more sensitive. I'm glad that my mind is now not focusing so much on the glans.

I think you are right with training myself to bare with the grit. I have been pampering it for 2 months now. It does feel less sensitive, but I do want to live without bandaging.

So far I’ve only been able to leave the house if bandaged and wearing tight underwear, when I’m home I’m always naked and I even sleep naked, I took a flight yesterday for the first time since my Circ 12 days ago, when I got to my hotel after 7 hours of traveling it was a relief to take the bandage off. I am still struggling with a very sensitive glans, I am hoping some of the stitches start falling out soon, they’re the biggest discomfort I’m experiencing.

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to Agrandanimal

Yup, the stitches are the biggest hurdle. They started coming out week 4 for me and were gone within a week. The would fall off in the shower or when my bandages would slip off. Once they are gone, it gets way easier. Desensitization is the second best thing, and reduction of swelling is the third.

They will dissipate in time from the enzymes in your skin.

Agrandanimal profile image
Agrandanimal in reply to CutAt39

So far swelling and the stitches are my 2 biggest my complaints, my glans and inner foreskin are very sensitive but it’s manageable. I just want to be able to use it again, it’s been nearly 2 weeks and I’m going a bit stir crazy without being able to masturbate. Erections aren’t too painful anymore, but I still cannot masturbate at all.

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to Agrandanimal

I only started masturbating on week 8, and i do it very carefully.

I thought my glans would be too sensitive when my girlfriend tried giving me a blowjob... it really was the irritability of the inner foreskin that turned me off.

Glans is losing sensitivity, but inner foreskin swelling and sensitivity is taking some time.

Agrandanimal profile image
Agrandanimal in reply to CutAt39

Yeah, inner foreskin is where most of my swelling is and also my most sensitive part. I’ve started to see the swelling go down, but it still is far from healed, I’m only on day 12, Monday will be 2 weeks for me

Montey95 profile image
Montey95 in reply to Agrandanimal

Yes this is my biggest hurdle as well I’m on my official one week mark & since yesterday when I would clean and change my gauze and wrap the gland back up I will feel the stitches poking and it was so uncomfortable 😣 painful man.

is glans still sensitive?

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to rinkuqwerty123

It is, but it is because I am still wrapping it when I go out. It is getting less sensitive as time passes.

I just got circumcised a week ago, and im afraid to use an underwear again, how long does it take for the glans to dry and desensitize?

Montey95 profile image
Montey95 in reply to McManBanannaMan1

I’m on my first week also man the best way to wear underwear is to apply antibiotic ointment on the gauze or petroleum jelly and wrap it and set the penis up right. 👍🏾

Do you still have sensitivity.

I got circumcised 9 days ago and my glans is over sensitive.

Bruh_moment profile image
Bruh_moment in reply to GauravTN

I had mine done a little over a week ago, and it sucks, still super sensitive. I use Vaseline with tight underwear, and sometimes I wrap it in cloth. I also apply lidocaine every 4 hours, and a topical steroid cream from my doctor twice a day. It’s gotten less sensitive. Baths are very important as well as showering, I try to do it twice a day. I’m scared it’s gonna take a long time to completely desensitize

Have you finally been able to desensitize it? It's been 9 weeks since I had my operation and it has healed well, the problem I'm facing now is an over sensitive glans too. It has always been sensitive for as long as I can remember I couldn't even bare to touch it but I can now, I only found out about Phimosis a few weeks back after my operation.

I haven't been able to wear underwear ever since and when I do I always put a condom on my penis because that at least helps with the friction which I can't stand.

I need help, I'm 25 from South Africa.

Vaseline on the gauze and wrap it helps a lot

I had my circumcision done around 18 days ago. Although my stiches have fallen off, I'm still struggling with a sensitive glan. I'm having the same problem as you do. Did any of the methods help you out? If they did could you suggest me some. Thanks

CutAt39 profile image
CutAt39 in reply to dragonbeing

For me, I purchased compression underwear and also wore a jock strap to minimize friction. I was wrapping my penis for 4 months from the sensitivity, but when I got the proper underwear and strap, it helped me unwrap it.

It's been a year now, I don't use the strap anymore. I do wear the compression underwear as it is not scratch on my glans like my other underwear. I am able to have sex. Things get better.

Any updates? Did you end up trying the alcohol 70% too? Or just vaseline gauze wrap + compression briefs + jockstrap and eventually unwrapping? Did lidocaine help permanently or was it just momentary relief?
