It’s been exactly 5 weeks since my surgery. Swelling has gone down 80% and everything seems normal except that my 80% of the stitches are still intact .. I have a follow up with my doctor after 1 week but could anyone give any suggestion ?

Stitches - 5 weeks post op circumcision
Sorry, did you misspell 5 months instead of 5 weeks? It very exceptional to have dissolvable stitches still on 5 months post-op. Your doctor can remove them on follow-up session.
I’m not surprised. I’m at 3 months and most of my stitches are intact too. Most of them are under the skin, and are called subcutaneous, or subcuticular continuous sutures. They run horizontally, around the scar, and I’m pretty sure they’re only tied at one end.
But most, if not all, have a stitch tied to them, which are small and are vertical, and can be seen outside.
This is just my situation, and I’m not sure this goes for everyone with subcuticular continuous sutures, but I’d be interested to know. With permission from my doctor, I have managed to remove most of them.
They haven’t been taken out of my body, but one day, at around week 7, I accidentally discovered by pushing the knotted end of the suture, clockwise, or counterclockwise around the scar, the suture came free.
Where it went after, I have no idea, but I suspect that, with the aid of gravity, it fell, between layers of skin, down toward my ankle.
I’m so glad I discovered this, and my doctor okayed it, because it’s given me so much relief of pain, itchiness, and inflammation.
It’s also improved the way it looks too. A lot.
Keep me posted on how you’re appointment goes.
Cheers!
