Stitches

Hey all,

So I got my Circumcision about 30 days ago and dissolvable stitches were used. My question is, to the people who had these types of stitches or know something about them, how long do they usually take to dissolve? I’ve been having warm baths daily to help it out and they are getting very loose but they are still attached pretty solid.

They are not dissolved by water. The stitches beneath your skin are dissolved by enzymes and the exterior ends will drop off. As everyone’s body works differently, it is important is di Le to give a time when that will happen. If the ends are bothering you, you can get them removed by a doctor or nurse.

The stitches take around 14 days but there is people that report they all gone in 10 days or in a month. At this point your stitches have done all the work and there is certainly no more use for them unless your wound is still open in some way. Best thing to do is contact your nurse and they will get them removed by hand. Don’t try to remove them yourself or you can open the wound back up! Cheers!

I was just in yesterday and since they are dissolvable they didn’t take them out.

Hmm. If I were you I would have insisted lol. The rubbing of the stitches is the worst for me! Best of luck!

I had the same, they started rubbing off on the outside in the third week I think then as osidge says the internal part is absorbed.

Yea that’s what I think is happening. The outside part is becoming very loose and I assume the inside part just dissolves. I have to ask, did you do anything to help them or did you just wait until they fell off? I’m just having baths and letting them fall off on their own, I don’t want to screw anything up!

I’d just leave them to it. I was cleaning the wound with warm salt water up to twice a day or like you having a warm bath. I found each stage of healing happened suddenly. Hope you are same.

For me, only on week 4 did the stitches start to fall out. At the end of week 5, all the stitches were out and I could put a bandage on without fear of it snagging on a stitch. Many fell out in the shower (most of these I didn't notice falling out). Some fell out when I removed the bandage. Some fell out when scabs came off.

I thought water dissolved the stitches. Not true. The body has some chemicals like enzymes or hormones that dissolve it. I think mine took longer because of other medications I am on for diabetes, blood thinning, and blood pressure.

Yea I always thought it was the water that softens them and then they fall out but you’re right it is the body that is doing it. Another two of mine fell out last night so I’m on my way. The rest a very loose but I’m not pulling on them, I’ll let them just fall off! No sense in screwing something up if I’ve come this far!
