HRT gel and progesterone tablet
I started the gel & progesterone tablets 18 days ago & I noticed a change straight away . My hot flushes ( not that they were too bad) , my sleeping was better & brain fog were much less . My GP warned me that I might have some bleeding which started on Day 17 but so far fairly light .
I was still in the peri-menopause phase but my GP has put me on the post menopausal HRT so I hopefully don’t have to swap.
So far I am very happy with it & can put up with the bleeding as I fell like myself again .
Good luck
Hello again Oh l didn't realise there was post menopause hrt. My doctor said l shouldn't get any bleeding I'm post menopause. Late menopause at 58 now 60 will be 61 end of month. What is the difference between the peri menopause HRT and the post menopause HRT? I have oestrogen gel 2 pumps and progesterone 100 tablet. Praying for no bleeding as took ages to decide to take it as mum had uterine cancer in her 50s she had a hysterectomy and lived to be nearly 93
if you are still having regular periods you are classed as peri menopausal & it’s called cyclical HRT so has two different patches each month . If you have not had a period for 1 year you are classed as menopausal & then use the same HRT each day . I had not had any bleeding for 10 months & not much then by gp decided to try me with menopausal HRT ( same dose each day) & I have had a period for the first time in years but she said that this should settle down but if not she will prescribe cyclical (peri menopausal) HRT instead.
One contains estradiol and progesterone and the other only estradiol. (Extracted from yams some sort potato). The progesterone (or progestogen, I can never remember which) is to help shed the lining of the womb to prevent cancer. However, my specialist told me that other countries don't insist on it as obesity is the biggest risk factor. I'm not on a full hrt regime but occasionally slap on the oestrogel. Usually when I'm feeling very down. Sometimes it helps, sometimes I'm not so sure. It did when I first went on hrt so I cling to that!
About 3 weeks at least I would say. The 2 stage HRT didn't suit for long and I switched to Evorel Conti as it contains both hormones in 1 patch so you don't need to remember to take the progestogen capsules part of the month.
I started 3 weeks ago and have had 1 breakthrough light period which I can deal with at this stage. I sleep better and hot flushes have reduced. I have hypothyroidism so getting any hormones balanced in my system is a constant battle.
