Hi, I am 50 and am peri menopausal. Currently struggling with the hot flushes, not sleeping etc. My GP has advised me not to take HRT due to family history, does anyone know of any herbal supplements that I could take instead? I have a seen a lot out there but never know if any of them actually help. Many thanks in advance!

Peri menopause and cannot take HRT
why did doctor not advise it?
I would do a bit of research, look up dr Louise Newson. She is a leader in women’s health and HRT or menopausal not mad.
HRT is safer now than before and GPs do not have much knowledge on menopausal health.
If on Facebook look at HRT the truth collected.
try Holland and Barrett , there are supplements to help with flushes and sleeping .
Also do menopause supplements sometimes have offers on to make it a bit cheaper but they help or they have me I’m peri too.
I took flax oil capsules and they helped so I increased my dose to 3 a day. But they messed up my digestive system. (I do have IBS so that may be why. ) But that helped me more than anything aside from HRT - which solved ALL my problems nicely until I got breast cancer! Flax is worth a try and it was suggested by a friend who got through menopause on it. Get your supplements while you can. Health food stores are being squeezed out up here in Canada.
Try Health & Her Perimenopause Multi-Nutrient Support. You can purchase from Holland & Barrett.
I, by pure coincidence, went almost vegetarian when I was going through menopause, I still ate white meat but hardly any & no red meat, the important thing I did was switch to lots of beans, pulses & quorn within weeks my flushes calmed right down. There have been studies that say it’s a safe way of raising you phytoestrogen levels. I know it helped me.
I agree with earlier comments, Dr Louise Newson is a great resource and explains the risks etc. I did a private appt with her, and without that I'd never have got anywhere with my GP, they have very little info.
I totally agree with others…you should be able to take HRT, despite the history. GPs are very behind the times when it comes to HRT still and things have changed greatly.
There are lots of menopause specialists on line, they do cost initially but you are able to get your HRT after, via NHS prescription as they write to your GP.
