When to apply Oestrogen gel

Hello there

I recently switched from the Estradot patches to Oestrogel as I wasn’t absorbing the patches well.

I am now struggling to find a consistent time to put on the gel. When i work from home I will exercise in the morning, so shower twice. I worry i wash of the gel if I put it on first thing, so put it on later after the second shower. However, when I go into work I would put it on early in the morning, before I go out. That means I don’t put it on at the same/similar time every day.

I heard it matters if the timing fluctuates. Evening would be much better but my consultant said to put it on in the morning.

Views/advice please?

Thank you

mornings are better because the gel can make you feel wide awake like caffeine, although some people find it helps them sleep. It will be absorbed within an hour when you put it on.

Thank you. Do you think it needs to be applied at the same time? Or could I do it at 6:30 on day and 10:30 the next?

Ps. Being hypothyroid I wish anything made me wide awake 😊

I put mine on in the evening for the sort of reasons you have described. I just have a more consistent routine in the evening.

No worries. I also switched from oestrogel to estradot for about a year and found they worked nowhere near as well for me. Now I'm back on oestrogel and feeling better. I hope it works well for you too.

That’s good to know. You would think being transdermal they’d be the same

Yes, it's weird isn't it? I totally expected no difference between them, but it seems different things work for different people.

The waiting game with hormones does my head in… 4-6 months? For it to settle? 😩

Hopefully you'll start to feel better sooner than that. It might be three months for the full effect, but I started to feel much better after a couple of weeks. Good luck.

I put mine on during the evening - this is what my gp suggested.

I'm considering using the gel due to symptoms but work night shifts. I'm not sure how I should counteract that as I work 3 to 4 nights a week and need decent sleep on my nights off. Please update with your findings as to what time you put it on and any side effects thereof. Thanks! I hope it works well for you.

hiya

I use it in the morning and I only work during the day. That works well. I’m not sure if it would keep you awake at night?
